0W-40 vs 10W-60

I'm fairly certain it was about money, but it could also have to do with availability. BMW and Castrol have been aligned for a very long time.

That 5W-40 Pennzoil is some good oil. Castrol doesn't have anything in their consumer basket that compares. As others have recommended, go read up at BITOG. For the record, I would never run Castrol 10W-60 in my S65. I ran lighter weight Redline (a mixture that worked out to 10W-40). I won't knock anyone that runs the 0W-40 M1. Definitely an excellent choice for the S65.

How come you chose a blend of 10w-40? Seems that most of the advantage of an oil like 0-40 over the 10-60 is the 0w part, for added cold start oil flow. So why stick with a thicker cold oil?

The German 0-30 is fantastic. I would run it along side the 5-40 Euro Pennzoil.
