My one and only gripe about dct is sometimes I have no clue what gear I'm in. Like approaching a quick right turn u slow down, ur watching the road and for pedestrians but also have to look down to see if dct downshifted for u to the proper gear or are u still in 6th. And have to change yourself

In normal mode, PDK will upshift for max fuel economy, but it's completely different in sport or sport mode. OP, did the P-car you drove have sport chrono?

The downshift "clunk" you noticed on the MCT tranny... was that all of the time or just sometimes. I ask because my experience with the MCT is that it downshifted and rev matched well. Not as fast as the DCT on up or downshifts (the DCT is just crazy fast and seamless) but quite capable. I didn't spend enough time with the MCT to really find if the downshift was a problem.

the dct finds any means possible to get to seventh too if your in granny mode so its not just pdk. i always thought pdk was the godfather of transmissions

It was interesting to see Lexus go SMG in the LFA as it offered more "feel and involvement" than DCT options.
I do like DCT and also had an SMG-II car before this one. I do sometimes wish there was a bit more of a "kick in the butt" with DCT than there is currently but all-in-all it's a fine transmission. |

great write up. I have driven all of these except the MB and would agree with you on your ranking. my pet peeve with PDK is the dumb shift buttons that it comes with standard. they are absolutely worthless. In typical Porsche fashion, they make you pay extra for something that should be standard like actual shift paddles. I still prefer manual cars for track toys, but the DCT is great for daily use and fun on the track as well.

I also like how the DCT shift paddles move with the steering wheel, unlike the GT-R's and some others.

with paddles mounted onto the stearing column..its usually easier for tracking..that is the reason for the design...a turn at a high speed with the paddle on an odd side of the steering wheel can cause some difficulty..if its mounted to the coulumn its always in one place...i have a gtr and its so much easier mounted on the column then on my dct cars.....however it IS all about preference ;-)
