Great pictures.
The part # is 25 11 8 036 628 right?

How hard is it to remove the old one? How do you remove the old one? Just pull straight up? Will get it loose after a while?

So the whole thing pulls out. Leather and all? Do you have a pick of it after you removed the old and before you installed the new?

Also is that wood trim on your E-Brake? Is that a Euro option or aftermarket?

For the stock, pull the knob out. Then you will need to pull the pouch out. They are two separate piece. For the m sprt shift, the pouch is attached to the knob. My hand brake handle was an aftermarket purchase.

I would look to the firms that have been building short shift kits for BMWs over a period of time as there is some rather delicate machine work involved in building a shifter that works well. There may be some available now but probably there will be more choices within 6 months or so.

Great! Thanks for the info. I'm really considering buying one for myself.

Thanks. I was thinking the same thing in regards to waiting and hearing about it from the forum. The M Shifter does look great. What kind of tools are involved w/the process?

Just did mine, took about 30 seconds and looks fantastic! Is there a M-Sport E brake handle?

Jesse, for a pic, search for my thread called "pic request m sport e-brake". I dont have the part number for this, it was a "do you want it" kind of thing.

It feels different when shifting simply because the M sport knob is weighted, giving it a crisper feel when shifting. For example, the knob snaps back quicker from 3rd gear to neutral.
actually... without a short-shift kit, and just reducing the height of the shift knob already shortens the throw... total distance traveled is less with the shorter height because the base of the "triangle" is now smaller... (imagine an upside down triangle with the shift height as the sides and teh throw length as the base)

so if you're just looking for slightly shorter throws... then this is the way to go... a lot less work than changing the angle of your shift knob (that's what those short shift kits do for you).

hi rybmw,
The M e90 shift knob is extremely easy to install. just did it myself 2 months ago.

The stock 6 sp manual knob comes in 2 parts, knob and boot.
The m knob includes the boot in one assembly

Installation takes less than 5 min.

below is a step by step approach to DIY. there are 6 steps.
1st - put the manual gear knob in 2nd gear

2nd- yank the knob out in one quick move/motion- need a firm grip. ***there is no need to rotate the knob or unscrew the original knob.**

3rd- once the stock knob is out, peel off the leather boot from the console. there are some catches at the base holding the boot- should come out easily.

4th take the m knob and turn the leather boot inside out to expose the inside / hollow canal of the knob.

5th push the knob ( align the knob in standard H gate position) firmly on metal rod stick. should snap into place).

6th - turn the leather boot back into inside in posiiton and snap on the base of the catches onto the console!

you have done it!! congrats, i am sure you will have many hours of shifting fun with this ergonomically designed short shifter!!
