Say hello to my light little friend

So I guess the 335i will have to wait in line for its turn at the track...

I picked up the TT replacement Saturday to keep my 335i company. I had thought long and hard about getting a GT3, but I think that's too much car for me -- it will be there waiting for me when I'm ready.

As for the Elise, wow, what a rush. This car buzzes and rattles like the dickens, but I just don't mind at all... For those of you who have never driven a mid-engined car before, I highly recommend it. That polar moment of inertia stuff is not a joke, this car wants to rotate. Also, I finally understand what "communicative steering" means. There's no power steering, and when you corner hard, the second you lose grip the steering effort gets extremely high. Then, when you counter-steer, the second it goes light again, you're good to go. Telepathy.

And while I used to get positive comments and stares driving the TT, I now need a pair of dark glasses and a hat. In my neighborhood, this is usually the first Elise most people have seen, so in one afternoon of driving around town, I made many new friends... Kids all know it, adults have never heard of it.

Anyway, a couple pics, the car is polar blue with red leather interior:

Congrats! The Elise is one of my favorite cars. I rented one for four days in Vegas last year. The go-kart like steering and the noise the car makes are intoxicating. I know what you mean about drawing attention, that car got more looks than anything else on the strip in Vegas, and there are no shortage of exotics on any given day.

Although I'm jealous, I sincerely hope you enjoy the car. For anyone who loves to drive the Elise is a great choice.

Congrats! That was also my first choice for a "toy" car but needed to keep in budget.

Stock up on tires now, they wear out fast!

Congrats. No sport package though? Blasphemy. Your tires will last a lot longer without it I suppose. The A048's on the sport pack are like erasers but the standard tires aren't that bad.

If you aren't on it already you should sign up on EliseTalk, excellent forum.

Should have gone for the Porsche, but great choice nonetheless.
Enjoy!

My buddy owns a 350Z and always talks about replacing it with an Elise, so I know all about that car.

Nice ride

Yeah, no sport package. I didn't know if it would be too much for NYC streets, so I had it removed. However, the dealer (Hunting Ridge Motorsports, they are awesome) told me they can put it on for me at any time. Actually, that's not true. They offered to remove it but then found another polar blue car that didn't have it so no swap was necessary. I wouldn't mind the wheels though. After some track work with the car I'll figure out whether or not I need the suspension and the twin oil coolers.

I've been on elistalk since 1/06... I guess I knew even then.

Interesting...

So they were all out of Men's cars when you went shopping?

Kidding Kidding.... Love the Elise. Should be an absolute hoot. Anything that makes the RX-8 looks Huge has to be a lot of fun.

Congrats.

For driving an Opel Speedster (=Vauxhall VX220), which is basically the same as an Elise with slightly different suspension/wheel setup, on a regular basis (bro's car), I can say that this is just awesome! So sharp, so precise!

The 330i (with M suspensions) feels huge, high and really soft after a ride in one of these!

Congrats!!

Guillaume

PS: don't worry about the sport package, this car is already damn fast on a track when stock!

Just so you guys know, the Speedster *is* my bro's daily driver: 200 km/day (~124 miles/day), with the Bose Quiet Comfort headset .
