The difference between the two are night and day. To those people that think the m3 doesn't have enough torque for daily driving, they smoking the real good stuff. The m3 has waaaay more torque and power than 335 throughout the whole range. I've never driven a tuned 335 so I can't speak for that but handling and drivability ESP with dct the m3 is different |

Had a modded 335, now an M3. 335 had intake, exhaust, jb3 and i regularly ran race fuel and map 9
What I realized is that the 335 feels faster, but even with all those mods, my buddy and I would race and wed be neck and neck. So pretty much 335 feels faster but isnt actually any faster. The low end torque is nice but unless youre one of those people that just chills at 2krpm gear 6 and dont really care about shifting, youll really enjoy the m3 more. My driving style caters to always being above 4k rpm and constantly red lining and I love my m3 so much more than the 335. The 335 tapered off at 6k rpm and has that dead zone from 6-7k rpm. Id much rather be at 8400 than short shifting at 6k to stay in the power band

Dude,
Get a fukkin civic and mod the shit out of it! It will bet the crap out of any Modded 335 and non modded M3. Because that is what seems to be important to you. Torque and HP. All the factors point to one thing, you are probably still an adolescent and want cheap power. The M3 cannot comepete!

This subject has obviously been beaten to death and re-posted eleventy billion times, and every time people say "The 335 has more low end torque".
No one ever brings Gear Ratios and RPMs/Redline into the equation. ![]() http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=419634 |

I thought M3 would feel faster. It has vocal and relatively peaky engine whereas a 335 has a much flatter torque curve.

But my Z4 dynoed at about 352 wtq and 349whp on a Dynojet with the Jb4 :P So it's not lacking in torque... that's for sure.

I came from a Dinan Stage 3 335i to the M3. The M3 feels much slower, though from watching videos I know that it's not actually the case. I very much miss the torque of that Dinan Stage 3. I'm glad I traded it in at 40k miles as I didn't want any warranty issues, but it was an incredible car.
The M3 is an incredible car in a different way. The handling is absolutely incredible, especially compared to the 335, and it, of course, has much more prestige and better looks. The interior is also superior. It's a much better car than the tuned 335, all things considered. I still miss that torque feel, however, and I sort of wish I would have gone for a used Porsche 997 turbo. I really don't think you can go wrong either way, but make sure you test drive a few cars before making your decision. |

Just curious: could you clarify more on this?
The differences that I know of: 1. different leather 2. M steering wheel 3. M-DCT knob vs gear selector (or non-M DCT knob) on auto 4. M logo on stuff Are there any other significant differences? |

I also have extended leather, which is nice to replace some of the plastic on the inside. The ///M logo at various places in the car doesn't mean much to me, though it's kind of cool on the tachometer. The DCT knob as you mentioned is also very nice compared to the shifter in the auto 335. Additionally, the area around the shifter is black in the M3 and it has whatever trim you pick in the 335 -- I prefer the black look and allowing the trim to just be on the dash and the door to provide needed contrast. Simple wins the day for me. And yeah, the steering wheel is very thick in the M3. Mostly my comment was referring to the leather, though. |

Who cares about engine torque? The M3 puts more torque to the ground in first gear than a 335 does, and this is what you actually feel. I'm sick of people talking about engine torque.

You think the M3 puts down more wheel torque than a tuned 335i? I can go dyno my M3 at the same dyno I did my Dinan 3 if you'd like, but I'm afraid I'd be depressed by the results.

Once again, you are talking about ENGINE TORQUE. Rear wheel torque is not the same as the amount of torque in first gear. Multiply the amount of torque by the first gear ratio and rear end ratio in both cars the M3 will have more torque. The M3 has as much torque in first gear as c5 z06 corvette. Does the 335??? Doubt it.

I misspoke, the M3 actually has more torque in first gear than a zo6, which is rated at 405 torque at the motor. This is the advantage of having horsepower, being able to mess with the gears. In the end, my M3 feels faster and is faster than a 335 because it puts more torque to the street in each gear than a 335. |
