It's quite difficult to screw up the ecu.
We have corrupted them on purpose and still recovered without issue.

This time read the instructions carefully when I send the email. Please.

To the OP - at least you have a good attitude about it and didn't flip out. Good luck with the tune when you get it on there!
I mean, I kind of flipped out but figured that if the dealer got their hands on it, that I'd deny any accusations because I never even uploaded a tuned file, just a corrupted stock one. So they couldn't prove I tuned the car to deny me of future warranty claims

But Sal saves the day I guess! Still waiting on a call from them to walk me through how to fix this but seems like they know exactly what to do so I am no longer worried. Fixing cars is much more difficult than fixing my old windows computers... no more playing around for me

Let me explain something to you all so you understand it.

Tuner Protection = Flash Protection.

You CANNOT FLASH THIS SOFTWARE with the programme we supply you. No, not even with the stock file. You can flash the complete software in yes because your not changing it.

Do not do anything outside of the instructions.

We are specially doing another piece of software for E9x M3's with new instructions.

NO more experiments!

You will not kill the ECU but what you will do is kill yours and our time. This will have a knock on effect on other people waiting for tunes and there is a very long list of E46 M3 and E39 M5 guys always wanting tuning.

We recovered the ECU remotely. It's working and now it's being updated to 140E and then the tuning file goes in.

There is a happy ending to this so I will say no more!

Again, this just goes to show the dedication and commitment that Evolve Automotive has for their clients.

Great job once again Sal! You guys are definitely jammed pack with all the tuning you guys are doing. We truly are blessed to have a tuning company like this! I can't wait to get that CF airbox

And the OP, congrats on getting everything worked out. Let us know how the tune is! I am contemplating getting the tune for our otherwise stock E90 M3.

Sal literally has been helping me all day and I am grateful!! I was stupid and didn't follow the directions in the beginning but Sal got everything working remotely through sharing my computer screen and now I am in the process of writing the tune!! Will make a thread about how it is!!

Sal is the most dedicated, hard working person I have ever met - I work for a major software corporation and have worked with hundreds of highly technical people in my many years of IT experience - I've never met anyone like Sal.

His dedication to his work is absolutely unbelievable!

People like him are extremely rare!

I'm having the same issue reading the ECU. I've tried it 3 times (in case I had done something wrong or misread the manual) and it only takes 10 min or so to read the ecu and the file size is too small. The dealer updated my ecu last year with the latest software from BMW so I assumed it would be tuner locked. I sent it in as directed and will let you know when I hear back. Also, I did not try loading it back on the car (glad that one worked out for the OP)

Its incredibly rare for us to come across a non-tuner protected car now (yours is, by the way, your on 190E... its in the middle of the 'hardware number'. We flash you back to 140E). We'll check the file out and let you know if there are any issues and if so simply let you know the other routine

I really glad we got you sorted out Hamama, I will be changing the instructions due to the experience to incorporate any wrong turns taken. As Sal mentioned, the issue came about from loading in a file. The ECU's are flash protected, so you can't load 'flashes' in... but you can load whole files. So we load an old file, then give you a tune for that.

The base software you download is only ever used by you to go back to stock for dealer visits.

I'm strongly thinking about picking up the tune for our otherwise 100% stock E90 M3. If I do so, I will be doing before/after dynos for sure. I'm just trying to crunch some numbers to see if I can afford the tune, since Evolve is taking all my pennies for some other fancy Evolve products

Thank god you didn't try loading it back on or you would have been in my shoes hahaha
