Thats what they should be doing, but most of them dont. And the few officers that do give tickets to other officers or their family members, are treat as outsiders and arent welcome at picnics.

I got off many small tickets just because i had FOP sticker, and cops always asked me if i'm a cop.

What's the point of being a cop if you can't speed with impunity?

I guess there's nothing stopping anyone from joining the force if they so desire.

Maan, you just opened a can of worms with your original harsh judgmental comment and now with your hypocrisy!! Please don't strengthen the shady idea most people have about policemen being judgmental hypocrites. Let me live believing that most of them are reasonable and level headed.

the law is clear, but the issue I'm debating and you're avoiding is the implementation of the law. you said that the officer has discretion; therein lies the problem.

I'll make this easier for you. just answer this - if you were pulled over for doing 41mph over the speed limit, would you go to jail?

the answer is that you most likely would not, and you can't deny that you would plead with the officer to not go to jail, and you'd feel cheated if the officer did send you to jail. I'm not saying you'd be wrong for feeling that way, but I do think it's completely hypocritical to have the holier-than-thou attitude you've had in this thread if you wouldn't willingly (i.e. without pleading for mercy or special treatment) go to jail for a jail-able offense.

Again, the track is there for going that fast. If you go to the track, the law isn't broken. Therefore, there is no reason to be pulled over in the first place. Again, you should have went to jail for breaking that law, but the discretion of the officer did not send him.

You made your point and we're probably all in agreement. And, quit trying to get a LEO to admit to this online, bcuz he won't.

I believe it depends on the circumstances.

I do not believe that X over speed limit should = Jail every time.

The key question of Brosef's that you have failed to address is whether you have ever sped on main roads in excess of 30 MPH over the speed limit with the vehicles you have listed in your signature. If you can address that for us, i think we can put this thread to rest. If you're worried about divulging that information on here, then we'll just assume you're a hypocrite.

Which judgmental comment?

I think most officers will let another officer go if the issue was just one of revenue. However, if there was clearly a case of danger (for example DUI, felony etc.), then I would expect (or hope) they would write the ticket. And I think officers know that - otherwise they'd all be driving 100mph on the freeway, running red lights etc. with impunity. Example - http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/tv/21-J...he-Road/videos

Say a cop let's another one off - so what? Less revenue for the city? It makes your chance of getting a ticket higher? Just make it up on the next person. Shouldn't we each be more concerned about what happens to ourselves rather than if someone else is catching a break and if it's fair or not? I learned a long time ago that life is unfair and just saying so will not make one difference. I hear this all the time (from my kids).

I like that life is unfair, as long as it is unfair in my favor.

I don't care if he admits that he expects special treatment from fellow LEO. Everyone knows the answer to that, and it doesn't even bother me. I have tremendous respect for police officers and the service that they provide.

I just think that he's being hypocritical here for pointing the finger at those who speed, which is something that too many people do on this forum. you don't have to condone speeding or breaking the law to keep useless comments to yourself such as, "you shouldn't have been speeding." wow, how insightful. nobody should break the law, LEO and ordinary citizens alike.

2 POINTS!! wow thats very generous for going almost double the posted limit. Back in the days ie: 1994, I got pulled over by NY state troopers on route 17 doing 120. The trooper wrote the ticket for 105, and I still had to get a lawyer, pay $1700 ticket and do 100 hours of community service (which I did at my local parish) as part of the plea deal the lawyer made with the judge to prevent my license from being revoked. I still got 11 points for that infraction.
If you are gonna speed at least invest in a V-1 or dont do it at all. Totally not worth it.
