Rub / No Rub Index

I just mounted a new set of wheels and tires along with installing the Dinan Stage 1 with camber plates. I did a good amount of research and asking questions and in the end was fairly certain I would not have rubbing issues. Well, I do rub...albeit slight. So, I thought I'd start this thread and perhaps it would be a good single source for those interested this topic. Here are my specs...

Car: 08 E92

Wheels w/ Offsets: HRE P40S - (F) 19x9 +25, (R) 19x10.5 +25

Spacers: None

Tires / Miles: Yoko Advan 08 - (F) 255/35/19, (R) 295/30/19; New Tires

Suspension: Dinan Stage 1 with camber plates

EDC Setting: Normal/Sport

Alignment: (F) -1.7 camber 1/16" toe (R) -1.5 camber 1/8" toe

Fender Modifications: (F) None (R) None

Rubbing?: (F) Yes, both sides, just barely kissing the liner on full lock (R) Yes, both sides, outside of tires rubbing the plastic nub on the wheel well liner mostly on bigger bumps at speeds over 40mph. Sounds nasty...and as you would expect rubs less frequently on Sport. Hopefully after some miles on the tires and the plastic nub wearing down it will stop.

Hopefully there aren't too many other variables to consider in order to get a good sense of what you can expect when sizing up new goodies. Man I love this car.

Cheers!

not surprised on the front - I'm running the same size tire (although I'm running PS2's) and it rubs very slightly on the driver side when I have the wheel cut all the way to the right. it's just the overall diameter of 255/35/19 that causes it, because I have a different set of wheels with 265/35/18 (wider but shorter - also PS2's) that don't rub at all.

on the rear, that sounds tough. I went through a bit of this there's another guy on here with the same offset and tires who doesn't rub (Fastrack). I reached out to him because I went through some of this myself. Where are you rubbing? Maybe you can trim that rear bumper tab (where the rear bumper meets up with the upper fender).

no point in posting my specs as I ended up having my fenders pulled to run a wider tire.

post some pics of the new wheels!

No rubbing here with those tires on RACs and Dinan springs front or rear. I'm running factory camber, though. Will try and increase that.

I think it may be a tolerance thing so that some clear and some don't. You can see from the photo that mine really just touches.

Rubbing?: (F) No. (R) Yes when going at a freeway speeds usually over 80mph and hit a sudden bump. Dips are fine but bumps are not. If I have people in the back this creates a greater chance for rubbing on the rear plastic of the bumper. No damage is visible and the fender seems to be 100% okay.

Good thread. A rubbing "database"!

Yes. I have the same setup and like Greg, no rubbing. Even as precise as modern cars are there are some tolerancing issues. Might even be a tire that is on the upper end of the overall OD tolerance range. Lots of plastic in this area does not help with final assembly tolerance.

Hey,
New guy here with question regarding fitment and possible rubbing, etc.
Interested in some 19inch wheels, M6 OEM. Have spoken to two dealers that say they don't fit but have seen a few posts here where people had them on for summer and/or winter tires. Not sure if those were OEM or replica?

The OEM M6 167M wheels are:
F 255/40/19 et12
R 285/35/19 et17
I am looking to fit to a 2011 M3 vert (E93).

Anyone know the truth to this?
Would I have t oalter the wheel well, roll fender, etc.

Thanks

Need the wheel widths (not just the offsets) to know for sure. however, both the front and rear tires are too tall. the rear might not rub, but the front certainly will at full lock.

there are guys on here who have run OEM M6 wheels no problem. I think they look awesome, btw.

with re: to rolling the fender, the M3's fenders are rolled from the factory, so there's nothing else you can do besides pulling the fender out more, which is a more serious job that requires paint work.

This is accurate.
The rears will work fine however the fronts will rub. Grab 255/35/19's and you SHOULD be OK. Some members recently have complained of issues, but the majority of members are fitting 255/35's no problem.
You could always be safe and run a 245/35 with no issues.

Thanks all for the info.
The wheels are 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 with 12 and 17 offsets.
So tire size recs to be safe would be 245/35/19 and 285/30/19?

I originally ordered these wheels for a 285 in the rear. it did not rub at all, but when I wanted to increase the rear tire size to a 295, it stuck out slightly. the PS2's are also slightly larger than the Conti ExtremeDW's that I had originally.
