I wouldn't be so sure
The M3 itself might not have anything to prove but its driver may sometimes feel the need from time to time. This type of douche baggery comes in all shapes, sizes and vehicle type. |

It does seem like everyone has something to prove to the M in the next lane.
I actually had an experience this morning... It was nice. I had the top down. I had my CC set at 67 mph. Minding my own business after the gym and on my way to work. I had an older woman in a new Hyundai literally cut across three lanes to cut me off (I had to SLAM on my brakes to avoid hitting her). I didn't even honk my horn, but I did throw up my hands as if to say WTF??! She returned the finger. It gets better...I pulled up next to her at the next intersection and she rolls her window down and says "If you couldn't afford the accident, you shouldn't be driving the car...next time my new car is on you, rich boy!"

It is nice to have a car that is fully secure in what it is and what it can do... the fact that it brings out the dickishness in other lesser cars and their owners is even more satisfying!

If it happens all the time, it would bother me, but I honestly I wouldn't mind if a C63 would rev on me from time to time. I'm not trying to race in traffic, but it could make the drive home a little more interesting. Now a C63 or something comparable is one thing, but if it's something else, I don't bother.
I've had other cars where people would try and race me all the time, but really doesn't happen too much with the e90. |

I recently had a young Korean kid in a C63 AMG pull up next to me in traffic and said "nice car".
In return I said thanks and thought.. "his parents bought him that car". Being Northern Virginia, there are lots of rich kids whos parents buy them what ever they want. Shortly after he asked me to rev my engine.. and I was lthinking "in the middle of traffic?" how stupid will that be??? I just laughed and said, I'm too old for this nonsense (I'm 28) and it seems that I offended this kid with the C63 AMG. |

There is an equation for this:
Need To Prove = Number of car lengths you lost by X Total distance you drove past the victor after they let off the throttle This guy drove way out of sight. Don't get me wrong. I had a Cayman S, and I would have rather had an M3. It is truly a wonderful car. |

I'm guilty of this.
For whatever reason, I love feasting on Infinit G37S's. I think that maybe this desire stems from the fact that the G37S looks as if it should be so much faster than it actually is. But yeah, at least at times, I'm that guy. Haha, oh well . |

Some explanations...
Quote:
A) Remind you that power-to-weight doesn't always win? B) Demonstrate that you are far from king of the road? C) Show you what a real exhaust sounds like while being blown into your grille? Or: D) Satisfy their genuine curiosity as to what the real difference would be? In any event, it's wise to not take them up on it, even if you're on a limited-access open road with no traffic around, because: A) In cars like these, throw-the-key-away speeds are only seconds away. B) You're almost certainly going to lose. Yeah, I know that the race doesn't always go to the swift, nor the battle to the strong - but that's the way to bet. Bruce PS - Ignore any of my previous posts that may have inadvertently referred to possible demonstrations of excess speed. ![]() PPS - Sure, you could play the "mine's better than yours in the twisties" card, but anybody who would try and prove that on public roads is completely looney. A drag race is safe by comparison. |
