RD Sport RS46 vs GT-R
Was driving a stock looking M3 with DCT on the open highway. There are no signs it has a 4.6L stroker motor which makes about 500hp. A stock grey GT-R approaches quickly then pulls up next to me which we both acknowledge one another. With open road in front of us, I decide it's safe to do a few quick pulls. We do a quick sprint from 80 to 145-150 which to my surprise that it was even up to 125 where the RS46 pulls ahead. He pulled up next to me & gives me a thumbs up. Figured maybe I took the jump or something. So we line up again & this time my lead is even further after giving him the jump. The third & final time, I started behind the GT-R plus gave him the jump...I had to hit the brakes around 135 not to run into him as that's where the GT-R seems to run out of steam. Pulled up next to him after the final run & he did not want to talk to me.

OK. You beat a stock GTR with a tuned car in a race in the GTRs weakest power band.

It was just an informative post. I didn't see any trash talking or anything negative about the GT-R in that post. Just an observation that it seems to hit the wall at 135.

I wouldn't say the GT-R hits a wall at 135. Granted, the car is geared to perform best below 120 or so, but the car is still pretty capable at higher speeds. I haven't gotten my '12 GT-R over about 120, but I did run my '11 GT-R up to 155 or so and it definitely didn't feel weak.

My post was just as informative. Run against a GT-R from a dig and you'll have a different result. And the new one is a lot quicker up high. I hit 150 in 17.5

It was definitely sour grapes man...and you got all defensive. He was simply stating his experience against a GTR on a few highway runs. He didn't make a blanket statement that he would smoke a GTR all around.

No it really wasn't. Just pointing out he ran against the car at its weakest point.

Yeah, kool story!
997GT3, your tone does seem like you're being defensive. Next time, take MTV's advice, just say" awesome kill dude, your m3 kicked the crAp outta the crappy suck ass GTR!" That response would of shone true humility! Right on!

The problem here is obviously I dare put an M3 "kill" in perspective on an M3 forum. I wrote nothing disrespectful to the OP. I chimed in because I think I have a pretty good understanding of the GT-Rs performance strengths and limitations.

All in jest, my friend. I couldn't care if a Civic out ran an M3. As long as they enjoy their car as much as I enjoy mine.

And we love GTR's
discussion ended...though I would love a ride in that M3 Off topic, my local dealer has a '12 GTR in the limited Gray color I believe and I salivate looking at it on a daily basis. At 22 I'd like to keep some things for a later age and is why I'm not it one today. Need something to look forward to in the future and there really is no where to go from a GTR in the performance spectrum of things.

I doubt it; a 2012 GTR would have walked him. It's over a second faster from 60-130 than the '11 model. Also based on PG's stroker, the performance enhancement isn't much better than a bolt-on M3 in regards to 60-130 times.

(inserts friendly sarcasm) duhhh you guys.. The GTR's weakest point is 80-145... No wait... 80-150. My bad 70-135, no any highway speed.... Yes the GTR's power band sucks above 80 because I said so. Ok. I own one...... YES, THIS IS INFORMATIVE info i'm telling you... What your trying to say is, the GTR puts down its numbers down low. LOW in the rev range.. Coming out of corners, off the line or generally pulling through gears how you would on lots of corners on tracks in America rather then all out autobahn style blasts mentioned here.. It pulls with a freight train of torque from lower RPMS (like most all turbo cars) and doesn't quite pull quite as well up top because the turbo power/torque tapers off at high RPM (unlike the N/A screamer it lost to, despite it having a much higher drag coefficient, and the about the same WHP). It was funny watching your feeling get hurt, then watching you try and play it off though off though hehe C'mon from a dig? Race a 2012.. Are you really gonna bust out the low blows. D Nile is a river in Egypt. ----- The truth is the GTR (even stock) still has....way more torque, more at a lower RPM and more throughout the rev range despite the M3 having its 4.6L (they make around 330-350 but at about 4800 RPM). This is why it took OPs RPM and power @ said RPM "advantage" M3 a bit (125mph) to finally pull away from the GTR Good job. In my opinion you were the underdog and classic high RPM powerband took the cake on this particular race. No turbo's, not to much lighter, much higher drag coefficient (especially at 150mph), and a much smaller window of where your power is made (thank DCT for keeping you in that window better than a 6spd) is enough to surprise some forced induction guys
