M3 worth the upgrade from 2005 Boxster S?

Hey all,
I have a 2005 Porsche boxster S 6spd-19in rims, 45k miles, everything but the navigation and tach. Looks and drives great, but i've always been a fan of the m3, and after my gf bought the 328i hardtop convertible, I wanted it even more. I'm currently thinking of purchasing an 09 E92. Now I know the 0-60 diff between the two cars is about 1 second, and the m3 would be more luxurious, i'm just wondering if I would be able to feel the performance diff between the two cars. I'm also concerned that I might miss the cornering and feel of the midengine boxster s. I'm looking to get the dsc since I want to try something diff from the 6mt-not that I don't enjoy driving a stick-hopefully I won't miss it. Anyway, feedback is appreciated. This looks like a great place.

I race Boxsters, and I daily drive an E92 M3. You won't even know what happened, the first time you step on the accelerator. It will open your eyes up so wide. The M3 is a COMPLETELY different beast. In the corners, NOTHING BEATS BOXSTERS, but the M3 will make those corners a lot more sideways, but still in control. And have about 200 more HP for the straights too lol.

GO FOR THE UPGRADE!

Not a Boxster, but I had a Cayman S before the M3 and I have no regrets.

boxster is incredibly fun and nimble because its light. m3 is incredibly fun and nimble despite its heft. big difference there. tradeoff is m3 is usable every day and can carry people and stuff. best of both worlds if you can keep your boxster and buy maybe a pre-loved M3 for 10K cheaper than new.

I think it all depends on your expectations. I’ve owned a Cayman S. In terms of communication of steering, brakes, and suspension, the Porsche is much better. The mid-engine thing is probably overplayed a bit. One can argue that the M3 or ZO6 is as much a front mid-engine car as is the Boxster a rear mid-engine. One aggrevation I had with the Cayman, PSM cannot be fully disabled without some electrical work; not an issue for street driving, but a pain on track. The big nemesis of the M3 of course, is weight. More hp helps, but doesn’t offset the handling effects. Not that the M3 handling is weak, as it is truly a great sports sedan. I’ve owned two E46 and now the E92 version, and have no regrets. Except for StopTech brakes, I have done nothing to the car, and will not. It is not a car that, IMO, is very well suited to heavily modding for track use. It can be done of course, and with great success, but it’s kind of an uncomfortable fit. Maybe like wearing tennis shoes for running; can be done, and a good runner wearing them will beat me in my best running shoes! If I were still more active in track stuff, I would have something else, but the M3, IMO, is truly the best in its class.

I have a boxster and a e92 m3.
The tight cornering feel you get from the boxster you won't get from the m3, but the m3 is amazing.
The m3 is more practical, faster, more aggressive looking, and luxurious in my opinion. The boxster is great for those windy roads and sunny days if you want the top down.
