3) Make a backup of each specific module that is changed
4) Note the hardware and software versions of those modules

After those steps, I perform the coding, document what was changed, and finally test the new functionality.

The majority of the time is spent on #1-#4 above.

I could code an entire car in less than ten minutes, but I go through those steps to make sure that everything is done right and double checked, and to make sure that all of the factory files are completely backed up so they can always be restored for whatever reason at hand. Better safe than sorry.
Thoroughness is an EXCELLENT business practice.

It's really not that hard to DIY with a $85 cable. For those interested in experimenting with your own car all the info is available on e90post. I am more than glad to help answering any question you have. However, there's still no simple solution for DVD in motion for CIC. It's a well-kept secret among vendors.

For those of you with manual cars - I just discovered how to allow starting without your foot on the clutch.

Also - not on the list - allowing the windows to open/close even when interrupted by a door being opened.

dvd usually plays only in park...

up until recently only vendors knew how to code vehicles to allow dvd's to play while driving as well...but the code has been 'cracked" recently by members willing to share that info for free...go figure...

I'd like to see some coding that can remote start the car. Technically it's possible with everything being controlled by the computer.

There is actually a few lines in the code that translate back to "remote start". Although it might not be possible without disabling EWS.

I will try it and report back when I have some free time to test

Isn't EWS controlled by the computer as well?

Yes it is. But it's not a good idea to toy around with it. It is - after all - the main reason why BMW's are so difficult to steal.

DVD in Motion update: I have tested DVD in motion on a number of vehicles, and have been successful every time. I am very happy to report the ability to offer this to m3post members!

I wanted to post a review of coding by Mike@Powerchip.

I went with my buddy of mine a few weekends ago. Mike was really easy to work with. I had several things done to my car including close moonroof upon rain detection, corner bulb deletion, mirror fold up upon lock, and a few more.

Mike was always open to us asking him questions and was easy to schedule with. His pricing is the most reasonable around. I would highly recommend those who are in the Los Angeles Area to go and let him code your car, since now he is apparently able to code DVD in motion without any hardware modifications!

Mike...thanks for your coding!

Uhhhhhhh.....

....For passengers

....As an alternative to music (..sometimes LISTENING to your favorite movie is just as enjoyable as watching it)

....etc.

I personally find it no different that fiddling around with iDrive while in motion. Those of us with iDrive glance at the display many times while driving (..placing BT calls, inputting addresses, etc.), so what makes that any different than glancing at a movie while driving? Sure, you can argue that it's "unsafe", but that's an extremely slippery slope.

I have Video in motion on my 1990 7 Series. It was as easy as switching two wires going to the head unit

I think the main reason for it is for your passengers - kids, whoever. You certainly shouldn't be watching while driving!

I can also set the speed at which the video playback turns off. So if you'd like 65mph, 100mph, or 180 mph, I can set it to them or anything in between.

Not that anyone should be watching TV in the car at 100+ MPH

Thanks Albert, it was nice meeting you as well and I'm glad you like the coding.

Let me know when you want DVD in motion

Does all the coding go away when BMW does a software upgrade or reflash of your DME?

It depends. If the dealer flashes just your DME - all of the coding will stay there and will not be affected. If for some reason they reflash the entire car, then it would overwrite the coding.

When this occurs, I work with the customer to get it back. It wouldn't be fair to pay anywhere near full pop to have it recoded. So far, only one re-do was needed out of tons of cars coded.

Things such as alarm coding, bluetooth retrofits, etc, should stay in place even if the dealer recodes the whole car.
