I just got off the phone with the seller who told me that his car was "clean title with no accidents". The title has obviously been "washed" because carfax shows it was a total loss back in 2009.

I am not sure how it works in the US being from Canada, but when you look at the history report and it shows on one of the lines "Vehicle registered to Insurance Company", is this not a tip off to being a wreck?

Yes, it would. However it is posted locally for sale and the seller flat out lied about the history over the phone.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I think certain states will not transfer salvage/rebuilt titles over so It's possible to wash a tittle clean if you know what you're doing. Pretty shady stuff...

Registered to an insurance company seems lil funny but other than that, it looks like clean car according to AutoCheck.

^ Run a Carfax though and it will clearly state "total loss".

Either way, insurance companies are not in the business of buying cars unless they have to.

Interesting... wow the car looks so ridiculously clean too. Usually cars with total losses will have missing bits here and there or a super worn out looking seats, strange stains etc. Everything looks immaculate and original... definitely tricky.

If anyone has a free (or paid) carfax service, please post actual carfax.

This is really bad that one vin service (carfax) shows "total loss" and another reputable service (autocheck - carmax uses them in all of their stores) doesn't even show a ding on the same car.

If I'm the owner of the car, I'll sell it to carmax like right now as it doesn't even show up in the autocheck.
