Points for no front plate

Before my new car arrived, I asked the dealer not to mount the front license plate holder. I haven't had a front plate for 20 years.

My salesperson told me that either now or soon, you could get points for not having a front plate.

I searched google but can't find any reference to this. Is my sales guy smoking crack?

You won't get any points on your record, but the fine will increase after several offenses.

This is not 100% true. I came very close to having a point on my record for tint and a $600 fine. But I went to court and fought my ticket and won! See the story HERE.

If the cop is a dick and you have had fix its for your plate in the past, they can give you the citation 24004 which is a point on your record...

Don't think they would ever get a way with it for a front plate, but it is possible.

Wrooooong!!! California Vehicle Code (CVC) 24004 is a moving violation not a mechanical violation. I didn't read your story, but I'm sure your were cited for tinted windows (CVC 26708 or some shit) and neglected to remove your tint, so it became a moving violation because the vehicle was unsafe to be on the road. I, also don't think 24004 will give you a point on your record, but it will show up on your record.

So OP, no, you won't get a point on your record!

K. Why dont you read a story before you discount it. Not fixing your front plate or getting pulled over by the same cop for it multiple times can turn into a 24004 and is a point on your record.

I just went through this and know that it is a point. It is possible but will probably never happen.

That's probably why

How often do we get pulled over by the same cop....

Plus, OP didn't ask about multiple occurrences.

and if a cop pulls you over JUST for no front plates... then he is really a prick

and you must have some serious bad luck...

Mine wasn't actually the same cop, she just looked up my previous tickets before she got out of her car. She even made all the fix-its NON-Correctable.... Doh

But yea, first time it will just be a 20$ fix it. And probably every time after that too, but it can happen. Cops can ticket you for whatever they want, and then you have to decide if you take the risk of fighting it.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough the first time. CVC 24004 is a MOVING violation not a MECHANICAL violation. 24004 is the unlawful operation after a notice of unsafe condition, so in other words you were driving an unsafe vehicle cuz of the tint. Explain to me how driving a vehicle without a plate is unsafe?

What do I know, I only worked for the CHP for three years!

Damn

guess lady luck just wasn't on your side (

hence why I have decided to run no plates and just keep the dealer tag on my front windshield :P

It's a 2011 M3, looks new right?

Interesting that this part isnt in his post above... Did you add that yourself, Tighty?

Most people including some CHP and Police friends of mine do not think that would be a point, but it is. Had my insurance check with their DMV code books. Otherwise I never would have fought it.

Anyway, all I can do is talk about my specific experience. No need to flame me for it.

Thanks,
D

no one is flaming you

it's just that your case is special and you had multiple instances

where for the purpose of this thread, it was more for common encounters and whatnot
