Do you have any affiliates that install in SoCal? I'm interested in back-up cam for a 2011 E92.

Thanks!

There a few guys in the Wash DC area interested in a mini group buy for a back up camera.

http://http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=479155

Can you pm if you are willing to do a group thing for us, and also tell us why yours is the best choice.

Thanks.

Hi,

I can definitely offer you guys a GB price. Feel free to give me a call or send us an e-mail (info@alekshop.com)

It's been over a year since we develop this kit (we were the first ones to introduce this kit to BMW community) and since then, we made a lot of changes and adjustments to the kit to make it better and more user friendly. We also figured out a way how to simplify the installation process and make it easier for those who wants to install it themselves.

A few things to consider when you purchase this product. Since other modules are very similar to our product, you should make sure you get the best product for your car.

1. When choosing a camera, make sure it won't cause any problems with the warranty. Other vendors sell cameras that require you to replace the trunk latch which is the part of the BMW Locking Mechanism. By installing aftermarket trunk latch you will void the warranty.

2. When picking a camera, look at the specs of the camera and make sure you will get the best for the money you pay. While some cameras may look alike, they can have completely different specs. You want a camera with CCD sensor (not CMOS). CCD cameras have a better picture quality and a higher number of pixels/TV Lines.

Our cameras come with:
  • Image Sensor - 1/3" SONY COLOR CCD
  • Effective Pixels - 628X582/628X512
  • Resolution(TV Lines) - 480

3. The cameras we sell are made specifically for our shop and come with the New Super Bright White LED light. It perfectly matches the OEM BMW LED illumination. Other cameras that we have seen come with the yellowish LED light.

4. When purchasing a Video Module (Interface), make sure it comes with the Plug&Play harness. You don't want to cut or splice wires on your car. We have seen other vendors taping into CAN Bus and Power supply on a new car which is not the best idea if you want to keep your warranty intact.

These are some things that are not always being covered.

If you have more questions feel free to contact me and I will be glad to assist you.

Here is tlr's car with both front and rear cameras.

  • Front camera
  • Rear camera

With the new kit, removing of the CIC is not required anymore.

Aleks, following up on my earlier question, since I haven't taken a look at the actual module yet and I didn't see any info in the manuals on your site, what inputs and outputs does the module have?

I'm guessing it's 3 composite video inputs and 2 composite outputs, setup like the following:

Inputs:
  • iDrive computer (composite video)
  • Front camera (composite video)
  • Rear camera (composite video)
Outputs:
  • iDrive screen (composite video)
  • EMPTY (Composite video, 1st output mirrored?)

Is that correct?

If I only want to record one camera at a time (whatever is on the screen) I can simply hook the recorder up to the second video output?

If I wanted to record both cameras I'm guessing I will have to amplify/split the video feed coming directly from the cameras (composite video?). If that's the case something like this seems like it might be perfect: http://www.amazon.com/Monster-Distri.../dp/B000FO20W2

What do you think?

EDIT: Looking at this photo it looks like there's 6 inputs/outputs, is the last one a third composite output?

It would be really cool if you could route any input to any output, then I wouldn't need those amplifiers.

Tom,

In the current configuration, you can output only one signal at a time. So you can record whatever is on the screen.

The module that is on the picture above is our old module, you have a newer version, so the harness and rca connections are different.

PM me if you have any additional questions.

Aleks.
