My first couple of drives in the M3 left me feeling the same, you really need a long test drive to settle into the car, they do lack initial shove as per the 335d and the 335i, but the cars more than just speed.
As mentioned already, try and get a decent test drive in one. Quote:

I do see where he is coming from, I really do. I had a DCT 335i, and that gave me that a sence of speed, even at low revs. If i ever floored it, i felt it push me back into my seat. So then when i ordered the M3, i didnt actually test drive it before i got it. No actually i did, but drove it sensible for 15mins, so didnt expect much. When mine arrived, i did feel disappointed in the sence that the 335i actually felt quicker. Was a real let down.
However...I figured, something must be wrong with me...Its an M3 - it cant not impress lol. The power is not there when your driving normally, even if you put your foot down a little. But then once the revs are up, the M3 comes to life..its one serious beast You cant let a test drive judge the car...not with an M3. You really need to figure it out, bond with the car, then you will know its what you initially thought the M3 would be.

Different cars need different driving styles. An F1 car would be very slow at low rpms and comparing it to a 335d between 1k - 3krpm, one may find that the F1 is slower but that's hardly the point. The F1 is a lot faster when driver as it was designed to be used, i.e. at high rpms ![]() |

I am not going to flame the OP because a long time ago I made exactly the same statement on a forum having bought an E36 M3 after selling an E36 325i.
The power from M cars is far more progressive and as said you need to learn how to extract the most out of them. In a 325i you just mash the throttle and it will go. Its all about building up the power in an M car so when you get to the magic 4-5K rpm all hell is ready to be let loose. Its one of the reasons I am thinking of chaging my 135 for an E92 M3. My 135 makes more torgue than an M3 and it makes peak torque from 1300rpm onwards so the power is instant. I love the ability to have max power all the time whenever you want it but also miss the progressive build up you get with an M car. |

The M3 has 2000+ more rpm to play (I'm on the assumption the 325i redlines at 6000ish?) with so the power delivery is going to be different. Depending on what you want to use the car for maybe it isn't a perfect match?

Sounds like you need a car with some torque so you can really feel like you got your moneys worth! haha You should buy a diesel truck, it will feel way faster than your 325

M3 is not Very fast car,but it is fast car in its class, driving on street is very hard to show M3 poteintial,(personally i think m3 will show its poteinitial on race track),maybe u need to consider C63 or RS5 or even 335i,i think they are good for street driving.....
M3 is not for everyone... |

If you are looking for straight line quicks and put you back in your seat fast then this is not the car for you. If you are looking for the complete driving experience, railing turns, and the awesome sound of high revs then climb on in.

Hehe.. you beat me to it!!
But on a serious note, it is alot quicker than it feels. It does lack alot of low end torque compared to the 335i but it seriously makes up for it through the higher rev range. As said before though, if you want it to feel alot quicker then maybe its not the car for you. Maybe the GTR or the AMG is a better car for you... GTR has everything... power, handling and I like the look but the back seats are points less unless you have your legs amputated. The AMG has so much raw power but you cant put it down and you will probably go through loads of tyres. You need to seriously think about what you want from a car. The M3 isnt for everyone. Maybe the new one when it eventually comes out will feel quicker.
