Oh I know they're not likely, especially the DSG time. I was poking fun at some of the dreamy speculation of the DSG times over the 6MT.

0-60 is really fun, dramatic and you can do it often (almost) without going to jail. Sure we all know it is not the ultimate metric of sports car performance but it is important. Also it does say something about how well the chassis can ensure traction, hook up, weight transfer, etc. to contribute to a good 0-60 time.

  • The e46 M3's stated numbers are 5.2s 0-62mph and the e92 M3s number is 4.8s.
  • e46 M3s stated 0-60 is 4.8s, but I think at best they were tested at 4.6s.
How is the e46:
0-62.5 5.2 sec
0-60 4.8 sec

I didnt know it takes 0.4 sec for a marginal 2.5 mph

then you shouldn't have any problem producing a source for that information, given that they're "official" and all.

even with the DCT 3.9 secs is ABSOLUTELY impossible...

Even a 4.2 guess would be optimistic...

Seems OK with me. After all, isn't the M3 BMW's usual race car, so would it not be so surprising for it to be their fastest street car? Is the M5 ever raced? I really don't know, but I haven't seen one.

I'm personally much more interested in how fast the cars can lap a road course as compared to one another, in other words, take into account the total package...acceleration, handling and braking combined. A rocket-car might do 0-60 the quickest, but then what?

Sometimes there is a gear change (2nd to 3rd) from 60~62.5 resulting in a longer time. That's why a lot of cars have their 60MPH at the redline of the second gear so they can look better on paper.

haah, 10000 -150000 aint worth it.... hmmmm it will take that much to get the 335 where the M will start. not to be rude but the 335 will fail due to the excessive heat of the turbos and will go into limp mode unless alot of intention is put on cooling. the M3 also will have an upgraded suspension over the 335 and will have much more performance capabilities for instance lets slam Twin turbos on the new M and compare apples to apples huh how much raw power do you think that will produce? there is a company who has done this with the M5 and dear Gosh detuned it runs 800hp!!! lets see a 335 run 800hp... dont flame the M before anyone has even truely measured its capabilities first.

Absolutely agree. I never said 0-60 is the most important thing. Personally I love the twisties, eye popping braking and getting on the track as well and the M3 has always been about the full package, acceleration, braking, handling, comfort, even luxury and that is what I am interested in. I can't wait to hear if this sucker will break the 8 minute mark on the ring!

OMG, are you trying to be a troll or just not informed? This topic has been beat to death on this forum in other threads. Read up about what makes an M an M and how they perform in relation to the nicest base 3 series in the past. BMW have stated that the M will trounce the 335i, even with a significant amount of mods it will still trounce it in 95% of what really matters. You can always get a faster 0-60 by spending A LOT less than an M3 or a modded 335i. If 0-60 is all that matters stuff a supecharged big block into a Mustang...

+1. No way will a 335i even modded touch the new M3 in anything other than a straight line. I've had the pleasure of driving a new 335i and compared to my E46 M3 it was rubbish in the twisty stuff.

Your right....but 10,000-15000 is around MSRP once the dealers get done adding on their lump sums.....20,000 more...and trust me the tuners have already figured out how to over come all those short comings..but for a stock 335 to run 4.8's and the m car run 4.5.....um I say hey my 335 looks pretty damn good....rather get a used M5 sedan.

Very interesting points made fellas. I think DSG WILL DEFINTELY MAKE A DIFFERENCE.. its hard to do, but i wanna wait for DSG E92 M3. I learned my lesson from getting the 330i right before the 335i dropped. It sucks but i see a trend

745i for 2years then 750i
545i 1year, then 550i
330i 1year, then 335i
645i for xyears, then 650i
E92M3 MAN 6SPD for 1year, then e92M3 DSG-SMG 7SPD

btw i think the e92m3 will touch 70k full loaded.
