yea I couldn't resist. We've both been wanting one since it was released.

Kinda funny actually I was going to get one for my wife for Xmas and she was going to do the same for me. Good thing we both spoke up or we would have had 2

I still don't understand the point of an iPad if you have a laptop.

Mobility?

It's actually completely different than a laptop

I see more-so that if you have an iPhone, why get an iPad.

A macbook and an iPad are too different.

i carry my car manual in pdf form among other docs, movies, tv shows, and Zinio reader for my magazines... if you think it about it, it's perfect for that purpose, the laptop would be overkill for those things. plus now with the update i can print right from it those pdfs that i need printed.

But if my MacBook Air (I don't have an Air) can do everything an iPad can do, then it really just comes down to mobility, no?

Instead of carrying around a oversized iPhone, you can carry your 2.3lb laptop... http://www.apple.com/macbookair/specs.html

I'm obviously one who just misses the point of an iPad when you have your laptop sitting next to you on the desk.

I have a 27" iMac for home and a 17" MBP for travel or other mobile need, so it's pointless to buy a Mac air when the iPad is enough for my purpose... If you have a 17" MBP why would you buy a mac air?... If you think that makes sense then do it, but for "my" purpose the MBP and an iPad makes sense.... By the way the iPad is only 1.6 lbs so mobility is better than your Mac air option. I'm not trying to convince, it's a pointless argument, if you need it get it, if you don't then don't get it.

I'm bored and just having a conversation

I was using the Air as an example due to it being so light and mobile.

I have a MBP and it does have some weight to it...

Either way, I guess you're over it haha.

It really depends on what's important to you. For me, there were three big selling points for the iPad - the light weight, the 10-hour battery life, and the cheap unlimited data plan. I had a 2lb. Sony TZ150 with a $79/month data plan. The iPad is a lb lighter, lasts 3 times as long on battery and is $50/month cheaper for data, meaning that is a year I've recouped the cost of the device itself.

People will grouse about the lowered productivity of the iPad, but it's like cars - a lot more people want 500hp than actually need 500hp. I get pretty much everything done on my iPad that I did with my laptop; the only real downside was the much smaller drive capacity.

Currently, I use an app called Splashtop Remote, which lets me access my home computer from anywhere and view it on my iPad. That means I can run Office programs, watch DVDs or Flash videos, access my external drives, the whole 9 yards. Then I switch out and use the iPad and its apps for the other 90% of what I want to do, which is more media consumption than productivity. All using something smaller and lighter than the latest issue of Evo. Pretty cool.
