1200 mile running in service

would you buy an M3 that had this service done at 5000 miles ?

If a BMW is selling the car, would you expect BMW NA to honor any warranty issues with the gearbox and engine ?
thanks

Why would this service have been done at 5,000?

More info

And like Beck said, if I were to keep it for 2-3 years and it was under full BMW NA warranty, sure why not.

My guess it was a demo and no one ever did the service.

I dont see the big deal, if you can supposedly wait 15K miles for an oil change 5K isnt that much on 9qts of full synthetic. Trans and diff change is most likely just a precautionary thing to catch problems early (or in some cases create problems). I would think if the driver didnt pay attention to the 1200 mile service they didnt break it in very easy either. Just get it writing from the dealer or BMWNA that it wont affect warranty coverage.

But unless you are getting a smoking deal why bother, its not like they are hard to find or order, some people can beat a car to death in 5K miles.

I remember a while back somebody had almost the same exact question. Maybe it is the same car.

I would stay away from it. There is a good reason why BMW has the 1200 mile service on these engines. You need to get any metal particles out of the engine and put fresh oil in.

I wouldn't or at least I won't feel comfortable buying an M3 with the regular oil change as recommended every 15000miles. I pay ($117) for an extra oil change every 7500miles. so for your question, AVOID.

If it is demo, I would say exercise caution.

Then again, I am probably the only person that ever drove a demo like a raped ape.....

I wouldn't feel comfortable buying a demo. Every jack ass has test driven it and beat the crap out of it. While the car is meant to do that it would still be nagging me in the back of my mind.

The car can't be certified unless it's had the 1200 mile service so the value is greatly reduced at resale.
