BMW is not expecting to earn any profits with its first generation electric vehicles, such as the upcoming Megacity Vehicle, until possibly the second product cycle. BMW's conventional drive cars will subsidize the company's foray into electrical cars.

The plug-in hybrid car is already available and it makes the electric car look utterly, utterly irrelevant, as if the electric car wasn't already utterly, utterly irrelevant in the first place.

Does that mean I can consider my M3 somewhat "green" because I'm subsidizing a hybrid car initiative?

there just trying to mentally prep their stock holders. tell them "have patience, this car is going to lose us money, but the next one will make us millions! dont sell those shares!."
from what it sounds like this car is gonna be made with almost all carbon fiber, and other expensive materials to keep it light. not easy or cheap to produce. it'll probably cost them $100k to produce one, but they wont be able to charge that much for them

I highly doubt it will cost $100k to produce because of CF. As low volume CF buyers we spend lots to get custom CF parts, but BMW has an entire factory for making it now. The do it in high volume and drive down the cost. There is no way BMW makes a $100K car and sells it for no more than $50K
