E60 M5: 8.1

seems like you were way off with your calculation haha (if this info is correct)
you calculated 3500lb and 3700lb.

though seeing that number with M5...doesnt look right imo...

[edit]ok...i just read whole thread and it appears to be magazine article...

3500 is a bad guess compared to 3461? Especially since the quote claims the car will weigh slightly more than 3461. Heck in the end I will probably have it right inside my range. Even worst case scenario 39 lbs seems pretty darn good to me. Sure, I made a broad guess back then, somewhere between 3500-3700 but we still do not know how serious BMW is about keeping the weight down. If I had to guess today I think I'd say 3525.

Also what does not look right about any of these numbers?

-3461/426 = 8.12
-M5 curb weights I have seen quoted range from 4012 to 4087, with 500 hp (US) this gives 8.02 - 8.17 lb/hp.

This was not a test. It was a bunch of speculation, no better than anything else we have heard yet. On top of that, which does take a wee bit of savy to see, there is the basic facts. This is NOT the weight, this is a lower limit on the weight. What part of "slightly more" don't you understand?

BTW all the rest of their specs sound WAY conservative to me.

Please end this terrible thread.
Also, 'Autocar' has a habit of just making stuff up, so I would take anything they say with a pinch of salt.

The new car will weigh 3498 lbs, but only if you order a metallic color. The base colors will weight 3 lbs more. Also, if you order with no oil that can save you another 7 lbs or so.

For everyone so worried about the weight of this thing I have a question. Are you going to go light on the options in the name of weight savings?

I will order the options that make me happy. Things like Nav, Hud (if offered), SMG, heated seats, uprated stereo.

I will not order options I do not want or need like sunroof, rear airbags.

This is my confortable around town car that may see the occasional BMW autocross. Looks like a 60pt car if the early specs are accurate.

I already have a 1900lbs toy for the days where weight will really be an issue for me.

I won't apologize for dumba$$es making blanket statments as fact with no evidence when we are all in a speculation phase. Sorry though if you can not handle an honest, straight forward, no BS POV. If you read my posts I thank folks kindly, ask questions when I don't know and share information when I have it. It is not a matter of agreement nor disagreement, it is a matter of good judgement, which the OP did not show.

It is easy to be a "straight talking" tuff guy on the internet. Its hard NOT to give into the temptation to be rude because you can get away with it. If we were all in a bar together, I think the conversation would be a little different until we knew each other a little better.

Interesting concept, only ordering the options you want and not ordering the options you don't want......

You're right that the weight difference is "only" 62kg, but that's just theoretically. I found a test from german AMS, where a RS4 did weigh nothing less than 1721kg. So we're more in the region of 130kg. That's much...

BTW german sport auto remarked that the new ZSG/DSG or even the SMG will also add some weight, don't know if it's considerably more; but you all should know this.

Best regards, south

Not to my car.

An additional 25-50 lbs would not be too surprising.

By the way, I see in the latest V8 information (official, from BMW) that the new V8 weighs 63 lbs. less than the outgoing six. That, along w/ the CRFP roof should keep the weigh close to the 335i I would think.
