Hopefully the new 4.0 V8 engine in the M3 will not have the terrible reliability issues found in the first year production E46 M3s!!

Well people have been guessing a PROcede 335i can run mid to low 4s but the best real times that have been seen so far on bigass DRs were in the mid-high 4s I believe. Unless I missed a post somewhere. Now imagine the M3 with its LSD and larger stock tires.

For the same amount of money I'd rather get a 6er. It turns heads more.

I loved my e46 M3 but like my 335 better. I like the smoothness, the torque, and quite frankly the comfort. At this time the new M3 really doesn't interest me that much. However, if the past is any indication that could change.

my guess is the car will come in around 57k

+1 not in the M3 camp, that could change....

Right now, for my $70K I'd rather run rings around the M3 in the new GT-R. Or if street performance + near luxury is the goal, the C63.

I don't know if you're serious, but to be honest that was my thought, too. Also, I feel like 150K is not even close to enough income to be comfortable if buying a 70K M3. But then again, I guess I am way more conservative about money than a lot of people, and everyone is in a different situation (several folks here have no mortgage, no kids, etc.).

The 335i is what with sports package and nav?? $46k

The New M3 will be at least $15k above this, maybe they will squeeze it in at $59k to keep it under $60k on paper, but add in a few toys and it will be a $65k car with the minimum spec. Add SMG and a few luxuries and it will be a $70k car.

The expected price of it specced in the UK is around 55k, a similar specced 335i coupe m-sport is around 43k, so 12k cheaper and about the same as the E46 M3 was.

BMW have said that they want to make the new M3 more exclusive and a little more raw, the 335i really does what the old M3 did, a fast luxury car, the new M3 is taking ideas from the CSL and putting them in there.

There are plenty of poeple that wold pay the same for the M3 as the M6 in Europe, just because it will be the better car, they do different things, one is a car that eats the autobahn up, the other is for the twistes and occasional use on the track. Same with the 335 vs 535, I had a 535d m-sport touring, but swapped for the 335 as it is far more fun, 5 series is great for what it is, but no where near as good a car as the 3er, unless you really need that space the only reason you would buy the 5er is so you can impress you neighbour more with it sat on the drive, but I think that is more of an American thing maybe? All the European guys on the e60 forums always say go for the 335 over the 535, but all the US guys say go for the 535, we do have lots of smaller streets and far more winding roads here though, which is when you realise that the 3er is a better all round driving experience.

Well, FWIW, I already got 4.58 sec. 0-60 in my XEDE-equipped 335i Coupe (with just 19" wheels and Michelin PS2 tires; no DRs, no LSD), timed with my Beltronics Vector FX1 timer. Plus, I know I can do even better, and my PROcede should be here and installed next week....so, I should be looking at ~ 4.4 sec. 0-60mph.

To general of a statement. A person could have reserves in any asset class that would make them feel comfortable making the purchase. They could liquidate some reserves to make the payment very small or buy outright.

For example, the little stack of coins in my avatar is worth about 13k USD.

sure they have business. Just like others have said, 100k in "x" town with "y" variables, its competely different that what you perceive 100k to be in "z" town and "a,b,c" life variables.

Im speaking from being a small town professional with zero familiy duties, as of this moment. 100k can easily afford a 60k car, and pay my house and needs just fine.

i'm absolutly serious....

70-100k....

maybe a base model 328 or something if you want to push it....

but still you have no business buying a car of that value with that income.... even if you have no mortgage, kids, etc

If that's the case then BMW would sell 1/3 of the M3's they sell annually.

I know many people that only make $100k but drive cars that cost anywhere between 50k and 70k. Just because they "only make" that much at work, doesn't mean they don't have the financial resources to afford one, be it via financing or outright purchase.

I think you statement is way too general and broad.
