I am assuming Hofstra does not have a undergrad business school and you cannot take the higher level accounting and/or finance classes? Otherwise, I don't get why a switch to Northeastern would help you that much if you can already get a bachelors in whatever business concentration at your current school.

I know Northeastern has pretty good internship programs where they help you get an internship. Like the guy above though education > M3 by far! Also, maybe take a look at Bentley they have a good accounting program.

I'm no personal finance guru, and you probably don't want to hear this... but if going to Northeastern U puts you in a situation where you can't afford an M3, than you probably shouldn't be getting an M3 no matter where you go to school.

They're right: education > M3. But is NEU really that much > Hofstra? In the long run it shouldn't matter much where you get your degree, only that you have one. I think the fact that you're getting your education from Hofstra for close to free is a huge benefit. You also have to figure out if graduating from the "honors" college at Hofstra is just as good (if not better) than Northeastern.

What I'm saying is don't let the M3 get in the way of your education. But I'm not too sure that switching schools right now is the best thing. Stop thinking about the car and make your decision as if cars didn't exist.

Cheers.

It sounds like you're treating the M3 as a relatively unimportant side benefit to your choice of school but just in case you're not - don't make this decision based on the car.

That said, where you get your undergrad isn't terribly important as long as both are accredited institutions. Yes, Northeastern has a really good b-school reputation but it's not like Hofstra is a slacker or anything. and it's always a good idea to avoid debt right out of school.

Choice of school makes more of a difference at the graduate level. If that were the case, then I'd say by all means shoot for NE.

Put it this way - as an employer, I'd hire a Hofstra undergraduate with good grades over a Northeastern undergrad with lesser grades (given that the rest of their resumes were equivalent, etc.) without hesitation.

At the graduate level, the Northeastern tag makes a huge difference. An 'average' graduate of a top 10 b-school school tends to have an edge over even the best academic performers from 'lower tier' schools.

If Northeastern is "slightly" better in business I would stay at Hofstra. Save your money young lad. In these uncertain economic times who knows what the job market will look like when you graduate. I would invest the $ you're saving by staying at Hofstra and not worry about the M3 until you're done with school and your career is under way. If you're planning graduate school (MBA,etc) then being in the honors program at Hofstra will get you just as far as being at Northeastern. Do you really want your M3 to get beat up with daily driving/parking in an urban college setting?

wait, i'm with ersin here. i'm not sure i understand why northeastern is so much better than the honors program at hofstra. plus, if you are doing well at hofstra and are considering leaving for a better school, why northeastern? there are a ton of better business schools on the east coast than northeastern. in reality, hofstra is a decent school and getting great grades there will probably not be much different than getting great grades at northeastern. that being said, if you are doing well in school and want to give yourself the best chances at future success, don't sell yourself short. apply to other better schools and then decide what is best for you. always give yourself options. as far as the m3 is concerned, all the other posters are spot on. the m3 is the last thing you should be worried about right now. i know, easier said than done. if it happens, great, but it shouldn't factor into decisions about your education at all. education ftw.

If NEU is going to better prepare you for life after college in any way shape or form, then shitcan the M3 and go there. Your time will come.

I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to say I like the new spin you put on the "Need Advise! Please Help!" thread genre. I'd give it 9.5 out of 10. Will read again.

My advice... don't ask for advice. Do what feels right to you, deep down you know the right choice in your gut, the one that will fulfill you more than the other choice. Go with that, neither are right or wrong.

Drop out of school completely... think of all the money you would save without paying for tuition and books... and buy a Ferrari 458 Italia!

Oh wait... college students don't need Ferrari's... or M3's. Live well within your means. Establish precedences in your life now that will lead to financial stability later in life. Drive a Honda.
