Joey, I'm not sure if you could order the leather steering wheel from the get go. I know that the alcantara wheels wore prematurely and BMW was giving people the option to replace them, free of charge, with the leather wheel. Many people jumped at the opportunity.

I just looked at the sticker that came with the car. It shows Alcantara steering wheel. Previous owner likely swapped it out for leather.

hmmmmmm. i never knew that. with that im surprised they went back and put an alcantara wheel on the E46 M3 ZCP. AN then released the performance wheels.

Yeah, that is interesting that they threw it on the competition package. Maybe they figured out a way to make it more durable.

from what i understand, alcantara is manufactured in italy, and Gulf Fabrics in Miami is the sole Importer of the material for the United States. I quickly looked at ZCPs and ZHPs on Ebay. alcantara wheels in both look to be in similar condition. i doubt they changed it back in italy.
