It seems to me that with closed throttle the DCT executes a double click downshift as a single quick shift (in D4)....while with open throttle it makes two separate downshifts....but even in this case the overall time without drive is shorter than in an SMG M3 (IMO).
I don't think I've ever tried the left paddle kickdown mode.
