It's done to save people money

95% of people don't go over 1GB

Which is why instead of $30 a month for unlimited, it's 25 for 2GB, more than enough for most people.
And then for people (like my mom) who don't use much data at all, there's a much cheaper $15 a month plan for 200MB.
so they did it to help cut costs for people
Those that already have unlimited are grandfathered into it (meaning they can keep their unlimited data plan for $30)

Conclusion: they did people a favor by offering cheaper data plans

I don't disagree with them talking to Sprint, as I do like their plans (cheap) and they are developing 4G
But holding it in certain ways doesn't drop calls for all. only a certain percentage (Which is still unacceptable). but with the software update coming in a few days/weeks, it'll fix that problem.
I have fortunately never experienced it, and have already spent countless hours on mine TRYING to make it drop calls..

I can't view the album art, but when my iPhone or my Touch are connected, I can view playlists, genre, artists....
it's not as pretty, I'll tell you that though.

It's going to be a software update for 09+ iDrives I assume
As I recently got a software update and I noticed slight changes (especially when displaying song names)

I had the updated iDrive on my 2009 335i and also in my 2010 535i now.
At first, everything was exactly the same up to a month or so ago.

Then last month I noticed a few SMALL changes on my iDrive.
It seems as if my iDrive downloaded an update or something over the air.
A few features and names moved around such as the options screen on the map and the wording for some options.

I also somehow got a FREE subscription to BMW Assist so I can do google searches, etc. I think the "News" tab in BMW Assist is also new. I don't remember ever seeing this in my 535i when I first got it. It actually gives you news from different categories (local, global, sports, BMW News, etc) and even reads it back to you.

Since this is going to be a software based update, I'm guessing they can do it over the air just like my navi got "updated" over the air.


BTW. Anyone else notice these changes on their navi??

If anyone wants, I can post up a video with what my navi looks like and with what I think are the "changes".

... but how about the same with blackberry's? I personally think the iphone is crap (mostly because of its network) and will stay with the BB Bold I just got.

Oh I see. I just have the aux in cord which works great for me. Why would bluetooth be any better in this situation?

I don't think the integration from the 6fl is as complete. Its kind of weird the way the system does it. From what I understand it groups your songs as CD's like on the 6 CD player and you have to select which virtual CD you want to access a group of songs. Idk if the groups are arranged by title/artist/genre or by random. IIRC the system may not find all of your songs either, I think I was told only about 500 show up.

The reason BMW is working with Apple, and not Google/Android is totally understandable - Android is Dependant upon the hardware, skin - and open to much interpretation, possibly being harder to integrate. Buhahahaa, sounds like written from Apple's worker. There is pretty much nothing better in iPhone 4 when comparing to HTC's flagship models. And it is not my fault US customers have to be phones with contracts to specific operator. Android is and will be better platform than Apple's OS.

I have the BMW Apple interface on my E92, and the display works like this already, I just don't have the Genius and Apple fonts.

I still have play lists, albums, Artists etc

Was a retro fit option for $450, works great. IPod sits in the glove compartment and charges all the time

I'll try and get it on video today.

The 6FL cable allows you to search your iPod/iPhone, but it's not as integrated as the system they are offering in this video.

The search seems to be improved in the video since you can jump by letters and it seems more in "sync" with the car.
