middle aged guy new to BMW

I rented a 328i the other day and after having a slew of high performance cars got to say that the experience was "sublime". Cannot imagine what the other models are like given that this was a basic rental with no upgrades in anything. The six is as sweet as anything out there. Let just say I now get all the "hype". Sometimes there is a reason for it.

I am coming from modified C6, Supra TT, S2k and unmodified Cayman S.

Because of my history with v8 engines I would want an M3 (in sedan form). My price range is 60K or less and would order a 2011- do not want used.

I have no expererience with BMWUSA. Will they realistically fill a "stripper" order? I ask because the Ms on the lot are all over $70K. I am absolutely fine without anything other than a base M3.

Thanks for your much needed help.

Same here... a base model M3 is just fine for me V8+6MT= FUN

Does anyone know what is default setting EDC for base model M3?

Since base model does not come with M button, what is default setting for that?

Mine's pretty close to stripped (Just a couple fairly cheap options) and it wasn't a problem. I think with the economy they've got a lot less room to pick and choose what they'll take from customers.

You can also look at the Euro Delivery option. Depending on what you do with your trip you can come out ahead that way too.

one could argue that all options are not absolutely necessary for enjoyment of your future M but i would strongly consider 6FL - iPod/USB connector! not only can you control an iPod from the steering wheel, you can plug in a USB thumbdrive loaded with mp3's and play those directly...

the utility of that option might not be immediately obvious if you're new to the marque

btw love the cayman s, would have gotten into a direct-injected S if i hadn't needed a bit more practicality...at least auto climate control is standard on the M instead of a ~500 dollar option!

There is no equivalent, since Comfort & Normal modes of EDC are active settings that vary shock damping continuously. The base model is a passive system. Maybe someone who has driven both can compare them.

If you are willing to wait, you can order a total stripper, but there are likely a few options you would want to consider. 6FL IPod & folding rear seats are no-brainers. Heated seats definitely if you will drive it year around or most of the year. Sunroof is personal taste. EDC, leather and premium sound are not essential at all for many. Manual is more satisfying than DCT at less money, weight and complexity. 19" wheels are favored by many, but 18s are fine.
