Question Resonators Really Needed For e9X M3?

im comming from a 335i which had a full ss setup. all i had was my main dp and no resonator and it sounded great.

now with a n/a engine like the m does the resonator effect how it sounds? if removed what will happen?

i read in some threads resonators only effect rasp and not drone as well...

the stock resonators are just straight through design correct?

help much appreciated, thanks guys.

That is a heavily modified (blower plus other stuff) E46 CSL... You aren't going to get an S65 to sound like that.

I've had experience with no resonators, stock resonators, vibrant 12" resonators, and Gintani 16" resonators.

IMO Gintani's makes the best sound, reduces more vibration/buzz than all the others I've tried, and gives it the best tone.

When you alter the OEM exhaust setup, the M3 is naturally VERY loud with a lot of drone under 3.3k rpm. If you go no resonators, you could potentially have extreme rasp (as I did, paired with 200cel HFC). It's not a good rasp IMO, it's just too much IMO. Add resonators, you'll still have a rasp at certain RPM's and throttle inputs, but it's a nice rasp that isn't overdone. Just my 2 cents.

From H_Bomb's videos of his full Dinan setup, which has 4 resonators, it seems to have no rasp, and just a deep v8 roar. If you don't want rasp, I'd start with 4 resonators, and maybe even with HFC's. The only shop I know that offers this custom setup is Gintani.
