Would you get carbon fiber trim if they had it?

Just wondering. I think it looks quite nice if done correctly like on the RS4.

No. It's ugly. The beauty of the real stuff is the weight savings, not the appearance. I'll have 'aluminum' trim please.

ive seen some shots of the 335i with CF trim inside, both silver and black. you can find the pictures in the e92 forum. not a fan of what i've seen so far. but maybe they'll get it right in the m3. or at least i hope.

CF isn't exactly 21st century either. The use of CF interior trims dates back to E36 M3 and E34 M5.

Personally, I think CF only looks good when it's a large curved piece , like an entire door panel or center console like in the M3 CSL. I don't like those CF strips that everyone stickes on their dash and doors

CF is a structural material. It is used in critical strength, stiffness and weight savings applications. Personally, having CF trim is such a huge contradiction I would not go for it. Totally "ricer" IMO. Metal trims may have been big in the 90s but I think still look quite good. Brushed stainless/aluminum is a totally classic/timeless finish for both architecture and automobiles IMO. I only wish they were real metal, or at least a thin layer of real metal. The quality of the "aluminum" trim in BMWs does not really seem up to par.

I might consider it, depending on how it looks, but I have seen custom carbon fiber trims on a few BMWs. To be honest, most of them are hideous.

The Aluminum Trim in the M3 after 2003.5 (I beleive thats the date) is actually aluminum. The matt chrome and earlier aluminum trim is just plastic.

I think even the newer stuff is brushed onto a plastic base somehow. It may be "metallic" but I'm not sure it is really aluminum.

I wouldn't 'choose' it as trim. It works really well in my CSL because it reminds me of all the Carbon Fibre used in the structure of the car, and because the whole car's philosophy is lightweight. Using carbon fibre merely for aesthetic reasons is just false.

But if (as in the CSL) you are surrounded by CF materials then it makes the car feel very special. I even went out and bought a Scott CF mountain-bike to match..:rocks:

I'm 99% sure it's aluminum, because I know that when they switched over the real stuff, a lot of owners of the fake stuff were upset about it. Search fanatics if you want to be sure.

It's a different story in the CSL. CF isn't used as decorative trims. Entire door panels, console and seat backs are made of CF, it's beautiful.
