Market for Used e92 M3's

I just received a letter from my local BMW dealer promising "above market" prices for trading in my M3. They said that they are trying to increase their pre-owned inventory and that there is a healthy demand for M3's. Has anyone received any similar type of letter from their local dealer and do you think they would really offer "above market" prices? I guess it comes down to whether there is a higher than normal demand for e9x M3's. For those shopping around for used M3's - how easy/hard has it been to find a car?

I am pretty sure this is just a ploy to get me in the door to convnince me to buy or lease a new BMW, but I might go in and see what they would offer for my car.

Edmunds is saying my car is worth about $43K for a trade-in and $46K for a private sale.

I've gotten that letter at some point for my last 2 cars. This time, I get one from the BMW dealership I got the car from. I call the guy and he just wants me to take an equity hit, roll it into a brand new wonderful car, and he'd get me a great deal.

The deal turns out to be MSRP - $1000, + equity hit of $4500, and I'm at MSRP + $3500. Of course he doesn't say that, he just tells me that BMW has this wonderful program called BMW Select and that with it, I can be buying the new car for not much more in payments than my current crappy lease that they sold me on 2 years prior (never again).

I told him it was close to a scam. Not illegal. Not clearly unethical, but scam nevertheless.

Hah! I just dug up an email I got from them:

Quote:
I have a customer interested in a 2007 BMW 335Ci Convertible that we sold as "New".

If I could get your car back today, as compensation to you, we’ll put you into a brand new one, and keep your payment about the same.

We have a good selection right now, so I am sure we will have something you will like; we just need your trade-in.

It's a ploy.........bottom line.

They want you to come in so you can see the latest and greatest and then talk you into why you need it.

What typical dealer sleaze. If they sent me an email like that I'd drive down there and give them a serious piece of my mind not to mention pickup some free t-shirts and other crap at the store.

Some dealers and dealerships are just downright pure scum.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm sure i'll be wasting my time, but I'm gonna still go down there and see what they have to say and report back - mainly to try to test drive some of the new BMWs

When I worked for Toyota we did something similiar, we would call or mail customers telling them we have customers looking for the varthey have so they would hopefully buy a new car, you'd be surprised at how many people take up the offer but we were contacting people cars arou d 3-6 yrs old not 2 yrs old for the most part, also depending. What var the customer was driving and what they wanted we could actually save them money so it's not completely bs,
just thought I'd fill you in, it's crazy the stuff dealerships do, so many little tricks in the car industry

I expect this kind of garbage from lower-end dealers, I'm surprised to hear about BMW Dealers doing it. Actually considering some of the tactics I've read about here maybe I shouldn't be...

I got that same letter sent to me 2 months ago from my Infiniti dealership for our G37 Coupe...

Scam and a half...

This is the same dealership who let me drive off the lot on my lease at Tier 0 credit with a low interest (can't remember the #)...And called me 3 days later to have me come in as the credit came back as Tier 2 instead and I now needed to pay an extra $110 per month on my lease...

GET THE FVCK OUT OF HERE...Scumbags...

Exactly, a showroom traffic generator ONLY. Yes, they're giving money away because they're so nice and we're so special.

They hope to obfuscate the entire deal by mixing the trade into the new car sale. Dopes fall for it every day.
