Today we got around to mount BMW Fire Extinguisher. The installation is pretty straight forward after you spend 1h figuring things out
![]() Those who track their cars, should consider this upgrade. Sorry for the bad quality picture, we will upload more photos tomorrow. ![]()

One the other hand, I don't think you would care how much damage your extinguisher can cause when your car is on fire. I think BMW did their R&D before they released this part.

We offered these in the past for the e46 models. They are Dry Chemical based (Class C), with a 20 year shelf life.

If I ever had to use one on my car, whether it is dry or halon, I wouldn't even consider keeping that car. Like you said, it is an BMW product and I can't speak for them if it's good or bad.

Mounted where it is, does it interfere with passenger legs? It looks like it's sticking out too much. Very prominent.
I'm looking for an extinguisher to mount in the cabin somewhere but I don't know of a good place where it is out of sight. In the E46 you could place it under the seat and the one BMW sold with their brackets fit perfectly or you could place it in the first aid box they sold that mounted under the seat. (Maybe it would bounce around, idk). Unfortunately, the subs are under the seats in the E9x and there just doesn't seem to be any room there. That's not to say the one being sold by BMW is not sexy looking. I think I'll be going with a larger (and cheaper) one like the one in TrackRat's post, and mounting it in the trunk. Cheers.

Having extinguisher in the trunk is kind of pointless. You want it to be near by so you can reach it right away. This one mounts under passenger sit and it doesn't hit anything. It does stick out a bit, so you can reach it, but it is not on the way at all.

Recently I got the mounting L bracket from BMW - it cost around US$40 and is mounted under the front passenger seat. It's held in place with six bolts and the holes are in place under the seat.
Any aftermarket fire estinguisher with a steel bracket can be installed using this kit. Installation is easy as mentioned 20 minutes tops. Undo the four torx screws holding down the seat and recline it against the rear seat and this way you don't need to unplug the airbag loom and disconnect the battery. Install is neat and tidy and because it's fitted to the seat it will move up and down when the seat is moved. I will post the part number and a couple of pics from the install later.

As promissed see the attached pics of the install. Neat and tucked under the seat and doesn't sit out and annoy the passenger. If the bracket was installed properly the BMW extinguisher shouldn't sit out the way it has in the original post.

These pics with extinguisher removed. You can see the plate behind the extinguisher holder how it's bolted to the under side of the seat. I had to move the anchor point on the extinguisher bracket by an inch or so to line up with the hole on the OEM bracket.
When not in use one can remove the holder by undoing the two bolts - provided as part of the OEM kit. I know a few members are the BMW Club got custom brackets made costing as much as US$250. This is the cheapest option and including the extinguisher it all cost only US$65.

Did you say that this black bracket is a BMW part? Do you have the part number for the bracket? Do you have any pics of the bracket by itself? Is it metal or plastic?

Part# 52 10 0 413 022. The installation instruction have to printed from the ASAP - Aftersales Assistance Portal. very easy to install - you need to undo the bolts and let the seat rest against the back seat. Don't remove the wiring harness from the seat.

Thank you. I looked up the part number and I didn't get a match on RealOEM. It did lead me to a new part number though. But unfortunately more questions. Apparently I have to know if I have either "sports seat" or "sport seats = no".
What are considered sport seats???? I know there are euro spec seat bottoms and US spec seat bottoms, maybe that is what they are referring to. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...99&hg=52&fg=95 Thanks, Royce M |

M3's have sports seats so you need the one for that.

Sweet! This is the thread I've been waiting for. I have both the OEM Euro Fire Extinguisher and the Euro First Aid Box for my current E46 M3 but I took them both off as I am getting a new M3 Individual. Thanks for the Post!

No seat removal required to fit mount
No need to remove the seat bolts or seat. Simply raise the electric seat to its highest position, then I used a small 1/4" drive socket set with an approximate two inch extension. The screws are Trilobe thread forming design so only require a little force and rotation to screw in. I found loosely installing the two rear T30 Torx screw first holds it in place, then the other four front bolts are 10mm. You'll need to unclip a small gray control unit nearby from its mount for better access, and this requires no tools. Do not unplug any harness, it is not required. Total install time 12 minutes. Mount kit with hardware purchased from ECS Tuning. Thanks for all the earlier posts, they were helpful before taking to the job myself.

Very easy, and the clip flicks easily to take the cannister off. I think it's good to have in the car all the time, not just for track days!
