Can I get away with 285's?

I just read where using 285 width tires for OEM 19's and would actually diminish performance for being too wide and not squared off over the rim. I have a separate set of track wheels and wanted to use the OEM's for daily driving. The tires I wanted to use only come in 285/35 or 275/30. The 275/30 is .8 inch smaller than factory and I though that would create a big gap and look funny - it's also outside the 3% boundary of what BMW supposed recommends for variation on size (extra miles too). The 285/35 is much preferable but I'm wondering if the performance difference would be noticeable as a daily driver or mostly only in track situations.

For traction issues when I went to 285 rear, it made a huge difference and I switched from pretty good PS2's to shitty INVO's.

Mr Harris - so you're performance actually improved... Cool. Sounds like your traction got better, did handling suffer or did that improve as well?

I'm running a 295/30 AD08 rear (on a 10" rim.) So far, feels great with a lot of extra grip. I only have ~150 miles on them but certain no adverse affect that I can tell.

Grip improved, I went 255 front, 285 rear. It was on shitty INVO's which are notorious for having soft sidewalls a.k.a. bad steering response but the grip was actually better than the PS2's IMO.

I think 255 front, 285 rear is a better setup over stock, it's still somewhat tail happy when you push it but there's much more stability.

I'm going 255, 295 as I like my rear end a bit more secure
