You guys would have a much better chance at hitting 200 if you had a DCT.

Given the plans for going to lower compression and higher boost, no. The DCT would probably splode instantly with 700-750+ crank hp since it is rated for 575.

Plus, driving in a straight line in events like these is already pretty mindless. Would you really want to make it even more boring by taking the launch and shifting out of the equation?

He did not plan to ever go FI, in the first place. He was a stroker only man. But that is a whole different story.

DCT can handle power, look at Drews Gintani SC M3. Also someone is working on a DCT buildup, as we speak.

Spending the time/money/resources on a project like this. And 200 mph is the goal, lightening quick perfect shifts every time would be ideal. Look how all the quickest 60-130 times are DCT.

Going 200mph is not midless. No matter what transmission.

The GTR that just posted over 200mph in Texas, would have not done with a manual gearbox. That is now the fastest GTR.

Fun factor is not the argument here, sorry.

DCT might handle it for a little while, but I sure as heck wouldn't count on it lasting with 650hp unless you "build" it somehow. Heck, DCT's with 40k miles are already pretty loose with stock power according to C&D's long-term test, and new clutches are $3500+.

The whole idea of trying to get an M3 to 200mph is pretty non-ideal. If "fun" weren't the point, then why do it at all... let alone do it in an M3 when they could have started with a much better platform to begin with... like a Z06/ZR1 Vette or a GT-R...

Heck, you have an M3 'vert listed in your profile... you think the weight or aero are ideal on that two-ton+ pig?

haven't seen the M3 mentioned on any of the update sites, but PG posted this morning looking for someone to pick up a part at BMW 150 miles away and run it to him so I'm guessing they spent the day fixing something (hopefully minor).

Robert's 186 run and my 184 run were kind of warm up runs -- the car seemed to have much more in it. After Robert's 186, I ran a 182 and fouled the plugs and/or O2 sensor due to the leaded gas we were running. We didn't know which (yet).

We switched to 109 unleaded gas and tried a run -- but nothing changed. We pulled a plug and realized we would need new plugs. We couldn't find any plugs locally, and there wasn't enough time to get to Houston for parts -- so our weekend was done.

Robert's 186.1 and my 183.9 stand as our fastest times. We're on our way home.

I know you guys must be dissappointed so I will not beat you while you are down but why would you be using leaded gas? After all the planning and work that you have put into this I would have thought all the details would be worked out and leaded gas is known to foul plugs and ruin catalytic converters. I assume you don't have a cat to worry about but the plugs ...
