Good Car Rental for Performance Driving Session?

All,

I'm heading out to the BMW plant in South Carolina for this Friday's M School session, flying in to and out of Charlotte and renting a car to get to Greer. As this is likely to be the one of the only times I ever visit this part of the country, I'm trying to make a good weekend out of it. To that end, can anyone suggest a outfit that rents out good cars? I know I can get an aveo for 25/day but since I plan to do some driving around the area, I thought it'd be nice to get something sporty.

Thanks for your help!

Peter

P.S. Other suggestions for the trip are also welcomed!

Make sure you check out some of the roads in the Smokey Mountains. They are some of the best in the USA.

I rented a 350z roadster from Avis this january for a long weekend trip to LA; despite the absurdly small trunk and crappy slushbox, it was the most fun I've had in a rental car as I carved the hollywood hills/mulholland drive 6 times total beginning to end. I originally reserved an SUV, then inquired about the new camaros they had. The guy at the desk said normally it'd be 60/day more but would give it to me for 30. I then asked about convertibles (they had new 2010 mustang convertibles at the front) and he said normally 50/day more but hed give it to me for 25. I hesitated and he went down to 18/day more. I laughed and said I'll take it, but do you have one that's not brown? He searched and none were ready, then offered me "that white one." Not seeing any white mustangs outside, I soon realized he meant the 350z and took the keys as quickly as I could. By the way the "trunk" in that roadster can only fit two carryons, a purse, and maybe a shoulder bag, so if you go that route, pack light! Either way, it was a blast compared to any other traditional rental car I've ever had.

For anyone who cares, the best I could end up getting was a Ford Fusion from Budget. It was actually a pretty decent car all things considered, only let down by totally numb steering. But anyway, for 25/day, I was happy with it.
