Police Officer impersonation???

So I'm merging onto the hwy and the lane i need to get into is loaded with cars. I accelerate to beat the front man in line(new plain white chevy truck).

Blue & reds & siren come on. I pull over. I get DL & insurance ready. Fuckin' guy in blue jeans & "farmer" vest comes to MY window, a big no no since there's been cops mowed down on said hwy. They are supposed to go to the passenger side.

He takes my DL & insurance.

Guy accuses me of passing him on the shoulder & that I could lose my license. BS

Guy tells me that he's some "cattle control" officer or some fuckin' thing at which point I take my papers & take off.

I get way ahead, take an exit & wait for him at the next merge. I catch up to him, he speeds up to 140k (so I can't take his picture??)

I take a pic of the truck & plate.

I'm fuming that some animal control guy was on a power trip.

Should I visit the RCMP or am I over reacting?

I wouldnt say you are over reacting - thats pretty messed up. "cattle control" officer pulling someone over for passing on the shoulder? And telling you that you could lose your liscence. Sounds like abuse to me (I would say abuse of power, but what power does he really have?) If you have a liscence plate number I say you might want to report it - sounds like road rage on his behalf.

And then going to the police station and reporting the idiot

Sounds like BS to me. Although I do not think I'd report it.....might go further than you hope it would (in terms of headache/issues for you)

If I remember correctly, I thought you had to be a police officer or in a similar role in order to legally utilize red and blue flashing lights on a vehicle. Certainly a cattle control cop would not be knowledgeable enough (I would think) to cite the appropriate provisions of the Highway Traffic Safety Act that you allegedly violated. Call block the local RCMP office and ask to speak to an officer and get an opinion.

Ok, so my wife's co worker has an RCMP friend who says that there's no such thing as "cattle control" officers so I think I misunderstood him. The hwy was noisy & I was in a general state of shock.

I think he may have said "animal control" officer.

Get this. The RCMP friend says that SPCA & animal control officers DO have the power to issue traffic tickets.

More research required....

Schnell325 & AMJ_77, I'm thinking like you guys... this may turn into a shit storm.

I have no problem with getting a fine for speeding but I DIDN'T pass this ass on the shoulder... it's full of rocks that would beat the shit out of my car.

I really have a distaste for fake/abuse of authority.

Absolutely incorrect information. This has happened to me in the past. I kept on driving and went right to the police station. I pulled into Toronto 23 division and the person following me kept on going.

You can only be pulled over by a "police" officer if you are in a regular vehicle. This changes if you are in a commercial vehicle either way the person pulling you over must identify themselves and show you photo I.D.

Power of police officer to stop vehicle

Highway Traffic Act

216. (1) A police officer, in the lawful execution of his or her duties and responsibilities, may require the driver of a motor vehicle to stop and the driver of a motor vehicle, when signalled or requested to stop by a police officer who is readily identifiable as such, shall immediately come to a safe stop. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 216 (1).

Just let it go.. Stupid people in the world. Next time call 911 and tell them what's going on before you pull over. Get their permission to pull over.
