Extended maintenance worth it?
I know extended warranties have been extensively discussed, but I am wondering if extended maintenance is worth it on an E90 M3 6MT. It is very expensive - about $3300. I can see using it for: 1 brake service (both axles), 74K mile spark plug change, 1 brake fluid change, possibly a clutch disk replacement and about 3 oil changes. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

I'm probably going to do it, however, I need to negotiate the terms further with my local dealer.

I think it depends on how many miles you're putting on the car. I only average about 6 to 7k miles a year, so I probably won't need a lot of the stuff that will be covered under the extended maintenance.

This extended warranty is beyond the 4yrs 50KMiles ? or is it a maintenance plan!
I got the maintenance plan on mine for 5yrs/96,000KM @ $2000. One full brake job will more then pay for it and if I go through a clutch, wiper blades, drive belts etc. I am way ahead of $2000! Now mind you this is here in canada, the US may have different plans! However, think about it, when you sell your car to the next owner, you can demand more money because you have extended warranty/maintenance plan which is additional peace of mind, and being an M defnitely means a premium used car value , unless you are trading in to the dealer which again means that you might be able to squeeze a few extra thousand as the extended plans stay on the car |

Does the extended warranty include maintenance?

The extended warranty does not cover maintenance. The extended maintenance plan does cover the clutch, but the dealer said they won't pay for it until about 65-70K miles (before that, they assume negligence or abuse).

My service advisor said if you will need rotors during the time frame do it otherwise don't.

That is what I was offered (08 E90 M3 with 31k at the time). I turned it down. I can change a set of brake pads for much less. I can change pads and rotors for much less. I can do a whole lot for much less. And BMW maintenance is not worth much these days since they do so little. Put the money towards properly maintaining your car -- interim diff, trans, brake fluid changes. And find a good independent local BMW specialist for when the time comes to do the brakes.

I bought an extended maintenance plan for the '09 M3 DCT sedan I bought a week ago at a BMW dealer. At the time they showed me a sheet with a price of about $4,800 but said if I bought it with the car I could get a deal valid that day only at $3,800 so like a sucker I bought it. Only the next day after I got home and was looking at details online did I find you could actually price this plan directly on BMW's website and the price is $3,295!!! So yes, they were honest - the sucker price only applied for that particular day as they knew after that point nobody could be fooled into that price again!!!!
Now I have to wonder if the prices they showed me for typical repairs (e.g., brake jobs, oil changes, etc.) were also inflated to convince me I needed the plan in the first place... |

You should consider buying it based on your usage of the vehicle. I currently have 15k on an almost 3 year old car. I won't be buying it as it makes no sense due to my low mileage/drive time. However, if you are racking up miles and the car primarily, it probably would make sense to get it.

Are the M3 rotors "one use" like on the 3 series? Granted the car has not been tracked or abused. Meaning do you automatically need new rotors with brakes on the M3? They do not resurface rotors to my knowledge on the 3 series.

I believe you can still get a full refund since it hasn't come into effect yet(less than 50K miles). Otherwise it would be a refund based on a mileage prorated amount. This is what I remembered being told.

i was under the impression that depending on whether your rotors are still in spec or not the call was made. sometimes you get new rotors with each pad change or every other but not sure.

I honestly don't know. When I owned my 3 series I was led to believe that 99.9% of brake pad changes would require a rotor change as well.
