dealer given you a loaner while you wait for your order?

Hey all,

Kind of a stretch but i wanted to ask: if you've placed a custom order (in this case a new 2011 m3) that's not arriving for a couple of months and you're getting rid of your old car now - has the dealership you've ordered from offered to put you into a loaner until the car comes?

I'm in a bind since I'm getting rid of my 335i soon and I can't find a 2010 model that fits what I want (the i6MT nterlagos blue i want has a terrible interior, and I found a 6MT lemans blue with great interior, but i'd prefer IB). So, that leaves custom ordering but that won't be here for a while.

Maybe this is a ridiculous idea, but i saw some threads over on e90 about this so I thought I'd ask. I was thinking of going to a local dealer and leaving an extra grand or two on the table in exchange for them putting me in a loaner until my order arrives.

What do you think - worth a try or flame-worthy post?

Unlikely but worth a try! Someone ordering an individual //M3 would certainly have some leverage, though.

2 months? If it is a matter of keeping a leased BMW beyond term, then the dealer can make it happen, but if it is something more, then don't waste your breath. They might be able to "rent" you something, but 2 months is a long time for a courtesy car.

I tried when I sold my old e46 prior to delivery of the new ///M. It was only going to be for 2 weeks and they said they couldn't do it. Something about the loaners being part of the service dept's cost code. So I said then lemme borrow a demo and they thought I was joking!

I would say no, as a business owner, I would say it's an unreasonable request.

You can try asking the dealer to lock in your 335i's trade-in value so you can drive it until your new M3 comes in.

I respectfully disagree. You don't want to give them any excuse to reduce the agreed-upon trade-in value.
I always pre-trade the car when I custom order a new one. If I need to walk to work then so be it

My bmw dealership locked in the trade value of my cadillac while my 135 was on order which was about 60 days. The value was inline to what I was expecting.

When I was working on my first E92 lease, I traded my VW Jetta GLI in at the time of contract negotiations and had a 2 month wait for my E92.

Now they didn't give me a car for 2 months, but they did give me a loaner for the last 2 weeks of the overall 8. So I rented a car for 6 weeks, and had the free loaner for the last two.

Not a perfect solution, but it was pretty nice of them I thought. You might see if they would consider a loaner for a portion of the time you are waiting for the ///M to arrive, but the entire time might be too much....

Maybe you can rent one for a fair price 'til your M is delivered?

My lexus dealer gave me an amazing trade in value for my moms lx470 back in 2007, when we ordered the new '08 lx570.
We ordered the 570 in august and it wasnt going to arrive until christmas time, which got delayed to february!
However funny enough they sold the old lx470 just a few weeks before we picked our new lx570 in feb, could have just left it with us in the meanwhile

Unless you paid wayy over sticker and they really like you. Talk to the GM and maybe he can sort something out for you.. Remember if it's a smaller dealership then for sure no but if they have loaner cars laying around then yes..
