hp claimed

OK what will the claimed (brochure) hp number be for the new M3? Of course I mean at the crank not wheels. I should also specify the EU brochure. Keep in mind BMW has underated the 335i and M5 but may or may not for the new M3.

Well, I am basing myself on the assumption that the new M3 will have around 430 Bhp in Europe (no NA emission thingies). So BMW will claim in Europe I think 415, perhaps 420.

IN NA because of the different emission regs the Bhps are less......

425 bhp for me.

I thought that all manufacturers now measure horspower at the brakes; bhp (brake horsepower)? Granted it is not actual power being applied to the ground but more accurate than crank measurements and less vunerable to dyno manipulation.

Horsepower terms are a bit confusing and subject to many different standards. Their new official power unit is kW (kilowatt, the metric MKS standard). PS and kw are defined exaclty by:

1 PS = 0.73549875 kW = 0.9863201652997627 hp (SAE)

Also hp numners differ from EU to US (models) because the engines and cars are actually equiped differently and do produce a different amount of power. Hope this helps.

Seriously though - why not??? I know it has been off the radar for M division up until now but, if BMW are showing such promise with the turbocharging in the 335 and have other turbo engines in the pipeline it isn't beyond the realms of possibility that the M3 will have the same treatment. I tried to push Jussi on the issue (chap seems to have a lot of inside info) and he pretty much declined to comment on the FI issue as he had signed a NDA with BMW.

I think we should all keep an open mind!

Cmon now...base price CAN'T be $65,000.
Loaded one will most likely be $75,000 or even $80,000
