DINAN Mid-Pipe Software With Akrapovic

Since Full exhausts like Akrapovic cause CEL. Could One have Akrapovic (or any other full system) installed then do Dinan Mid-pipe software to avoid CEL? I've asked my dealer and they are not sure if they can sell the software without the mid-pipe. Nobody around my area does tuning but one dealer is a Dinan dealer so I'm thinking this may be a solution ?

Speaking from experience... or in theory? I was thinking about approaching my Dinan dealer with the same question, so some benchmarking examples would be great. I already have the Stage 1 ECU upgrade.

I live in Vancouver, Canada. there is only 1 Dinan dealler. No AA. I'm just wanting to hear if anyone has done this and if this is a good idea. I like the idea of having some warranty coverage after ECU tune...Especially after reading about El mariachi

Powerchip is the other option - I believe they can send you flashing equipment to flash the car yourself if there are no local dealers...

Guys,

Thanks for the thoughts on the other tuners. Most of us are already aware of the other options, but are choosing Dinan for a couple specific reasons:

A) we already have a Stage 1 Dinan tune, so an upgrade is only a couple hundred $

B) we like the Dinan warranty on the ECU tune

C) could be a combination of both

In any case, thanks for the help an suggestions but we are truly looking to see if anyone has ONLY done the software WITHOUT buying their midpipe.

Dinan products still maintain the OEM warranty correct?

I wouldn't combine a non-dinan aftermarket system with a Dinan product. The warranty will not be picked up by Dinan.

Clearly states in their warranty not to use unauthorized aftermarket parts with their stuff.

Quote:
"The Dinan Limited Warranty Specifically Excludes:
Damage resulting from the use of other manufacturer’s products in conjunction with Dinan products or systems."

Just gives them a good reason to deny your warranty claim.

The reasoning for me to get the Dinan tune would be to keep my engine warranty intact after a ECU tune. I'm sure Dinan would not cover any emissions warranty concerns if another manufacturers exhaust system was used. However, I don't see how aftermarket pipes would affect engine components.

I personally would not combine with non-Dinan products, but that is just me. If I went Dinan, I would do Dinan only. I have seen them refuse warranty work before. I could already see them saying "I am sorry our software is only approved to work with our midpipe, we can't provide warranty work." It would not be the first time they tried that move.

But it is the indirect "warranty" I'm concerned about. Apparently, BMW will not warrant engine failure if ECU modification is evident. I want DINAN to modify ECU with their software. I don't expect to have a warranty for the exhaust but engine should still be covered. NO?

Anyways if this is an ISSUE i will sell the x pipe from Akrapovic and run Dinan midpipe to Akra mufflers...

I am also interested to know if the software would work on non-Dinan midpipes...i dont see why it wouldnt but...you never know.

In terms of the warranty, I think the best way to approach this is with a "no guarantees" mentality. There are to many "if's" for it to be a simple "yes" or "no" situation.

the only REASON to get this would be to still be covered under warranty. Otherwise you could do powerchip, Gintani or some other tune that gets rid of CEL + makes power....

Dinan does not back the warranty on any of their "Race" products. So the midpipe and tune would not be picked up by Dinan.

So if you modify you car with "race" software from Dinan, you end up with NO engine warranty from Dinan (because it is "race" doftware) AND BMW (since ECU was modified)?
Yikes!
