Adverse effect on full exhaust
Hi Guys,
I really want to change the sound of my car right now and i'm looking at an eisenmann race exhaust with some mid section either hfc or cat deletes. However rather than just tossing a system together and seeing what happens I'd like to hear what the group has to say. Now the question to you all is: what problems have you guys encountered after you put in a full exhaust system? I've heard some say CEL comes on and some say that it doesn't. It's pretty hard to aggregate all the exhaust threads and come to a conclusion so I figured I'd start this thread. So if you have a minute and you have a full exhaust system on your car why don't you tell me a little bit about the experience with the system. IE engine errors, failures, back-pressure issues, tickets... Thanks, -Ken |

If you remove your forward cats and do not modify the ECU then you will eventually get a check engine light, sooner or later. It may take a month, it may take a few days. If you don't want to mess with your ECU you can simply clear the fault code for bad cats with most any OBD2 scanner. I bought one for $59 at Autozone. I like to have one around since it will work on any 1996+ car.

Don't forget the 4th adverse effect of doing a complete exhaust swap - deletion of your powertrain warranty. Removing the cats, etc. will void it. Plus, you won't pass emissions, etc.

you can add exhaust tickets to that list. if your car is unnaturally loud then you WILL get a ticket. esp if you live in a city with a lot of police patrol. it looks like you are concerned with the negative effects... then a full exhaust if NOT for you. if you have to ask these questions, you shouldnt be going to a full exhaust. people who go for full exhaust systems often want power and sound and dont really care bout CELs, exhaust fumes, state inspections or tickets... they usually deal with each issue as it comes along...

I think the fine for not having cats in my state is a few grand. I don't know the exact number but it's one reason why I'll never go catless.

If you're worried about that then a pulley is going to be even more of a risk.
