It's a cool concept. But for practical purposes, it is way too fat to use it at the same time with another USB device, since now a days, USB ports are aligned very close together on a computer.
But if it fits in the center arm rest USB port with the ability to close the armrest down, then it would make a great MP3 storage device. |

woah that is pretty cool. looks like it's a genuine part too. wonder if we could get a vendor to get this for us at a group discount.
and of course, they already have cheap China knock-offs: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-K...#ht_2803wt_939 |

I wouldn't use this even if it was free. Most likely it's a generic USB mass storage device w/ slow read and write speeds. I'd want a stick with fast read speeds like the Corsair 16GB Voyager, that way iDrive can read the songs off the stick quickly. I've used the Voyager for 1 1/2 years now in the M3, and it's worked perfectly since day one. Starting up songs off iDrive is practically instantaneous. I paid $120 for this stick back then, so $39 is a steal.

According to this seller, the part number is 65.41.21.157.569
http://cgi.ebay.com/BMW-8GB-USB-MEMO...#ht_610wt_1165 I can't find it on Tischer's site, but I e-mailed them. I rarely use my flash drives aside from moving docs from one computer to another, so I don't need insane speed. I have a Lacie ImaKey, but this thing is way cooler. |

according to the ebay listing its a genuine BMW accessory
i've tried the corsair it's not that much faster than the generic ones i've used i've even used a ssd drive i think the delay is due to the D/A converter as none of them was instantaneous |

Solid state drives won't provide any significant performance improvement in loading songs into iDrive. Only upside is at least 32GB of storage. The Voyager GT is massively faster than generic thumb drive and that helps a lot in iDrive.

That's really cool. They call the key the "Start module". haha

I haven't noticed any differences in terms of iDrive loading times between OCZ, Corsair, San Disk or PNY drives but I have noticed significantly faster read/write times when doing files transfers between the drive and my computer.
