Replacing the 8" subs?

If I were to swap out the stock 8" subs underneath the front seats and drop in the SWS 8" or whatever fits (I think it was the SWS) would it give an improvement using the stock headunit?

I'm pretty satisfied with the overall system but when I turn up the sound, the bass does seem to lack compared to the treble, just seeing if this will fix it.

It will be a slight improvement if the OEM amp is retained, and only in the non-Premium system. The Premium woofers cannot be replaced with the SWS-8 and be driven by the OEM amp as the OEM woofers are 7 ohms. Running the SWS-8 with the Premium system will overheat and damage in the long run the OEM amp.

The biggest improvement is with a 2-channel aftermarket amp of some 150W RMS per channel, regardless of system.

Technic, what's the smallest/lowest heat output amp out there. I was thinking about trying to install the amp local to each sub. It would be really convenient if all I had to do was run power to that location - or would it just be easier to install the amp in the trunk?

I've installed SWS-8s with Rockford P300-2 amp (it fits under the trunk mat),
installation was straight, and sounds way better than OEM now.
Technic was the big man who helped me answer all my questions and tips, mad props to him

That's awesome. Does it take away anything from the idrive audio settings? How much did they cost/where do you get these parts?

How's the clarity compared to stock when the volume is turned up?

You don't lose anything from the idrive audio setting,
I got my SWS-8s from ebay $200 shipped for two 2ohm subs,
and Rockford P300-2 amp from amazon for $136.18 shipped (luckly, it was on special sale when I purchased)

It's just sub upgrade for more bass, clarity is pretty clear and deeper than stock (premium audio subs),
SWS-8s are good enough for me.

Premium sound Bass lacks the sharp punch. I'd also be interested in adding/replacing the subs to get the bass to kick. Just not sure which is the best & cost effective way to do it.

For Enhanced Audio:
- Replace the 8" speakers with Earthquake SWS-8
- Install an Audio Control LC6i in the back by your OE Amp
- Install an Alpine 4.150 or 2.300 to power the subs

Done

Doing this next month - maybe I'll take pics and post a DIY

Why the LC6i? Kind of expensive if you only need it as an LOC.

If the only thing to install is a stereo amp for a pair of SWS-8 in the Enhanced system then a $43 passive 2-channel LOC would be enough:

Navone's LOCs are EXCELLENT. Easily the best LOCs on the market. I have one of his 4-channels with ther turn on circuit built in.

There's no documented per-channel power rating, only that it is a "825W amp".

So I guess that it should be a little less than twice as powerful as the Logic7 amp (420W total) per channel, so in approximation:

- 150W x 2 for the woofers at 7 ohms
- 75W x 7 for the 4" components at 4 ohms

Total = 825W

Am I not right in thinking that the watt isn't really the important thing in a 'normally powered' system, is it not the efficiency of the speakers that's important?

Like doesn't ever 3dB of efficiency basically double the volume heard.

I've looked at all the DIY installs and this seems really easy.

I am going to do this as a winter DIY because if I'm not working on little installs here and there I go crazy.
Winter time is when I start fabricating and one off modding things on my cars lol

So as of recently, can you guys confirm SWS8 paired with the Rockford p300-2 is the best way to go? And why buy SWS8 2 ohm over the 4ohm any difference??

The resistance (ohm) rating on the speakers really depends on the amp you're using and the wiring configuration. Generally speaking though, you want 4 ohms.
