Just another jerk in a hat...
|
It was weird. I called Irvine BMW, Crevier BMW, and Long Beach BMW (all within 20 miles), and they each wanted $350+ for an oil change. I decided to do it myself, but still found it kind of strange they would charge so much for something so simple.

I will say firm ride, I don't love the seating position, and from the drivers seat it is difficult to know exactly where the corners of the car are. Then again, what are you buying it for? The suspension can be adjusted or changed entirely. The seats can also be changed. With time and experience you will get used to the dimensions of the car. Edit: Just looking at it does not really excite me, in this thread I like looking at the Lotus much more. |

FYI.
If you are considering a new Z06, there are several dealerships across the country giving 20K off. A brand new Z06 for around 60K is pretty strong. My only real gripe is the seats and their lack of side bolstering. In this car I could give a rats bum about the dash etc... A/C blows cold: Check I hear music when I want: Check The fuel pump works: Check I have gas: Check It hauls freaking arse: Check, check and check.

A definite drawback are the seats. They are way too flat and give no support in hard corners. If you get an earlier car with the 1LZ package - no nav - it won't have side airbags and it's a snap to bolt in a race bucket.
The dimensions do take some getting used to. It is not a small car, but it doesn't weigh much for its size. Mine was 3132lbs. ('06 Z06 1LZ). This will take a little time, but not too long. When you drive the car for the first time, just squeeze the throttle on in first gear till all the way down. If you just mash the throttle, massive tire spin will ensue and you won't get the full effect of acceleration. Also, remember when you get close the the rev limiter in 1st gear, you're doing 60mph! If you do get one, get a Callaway shifter right away. The stock shifter isn't bad, but when you shift the car with the aftermarket one, you'll understand. The Corsa exhaust is fabulous too. No drone at all on the highway (actually very quiet at cruising speed), but will absolutely scream when you stand on the throttle. You can see the ride height is lower on my car below. Easily adjusted from the factory.

People who say "The interior really sucks and is cheap" haven't actually been inside of a Z06.

I know this thread is being dominated by members who would choose the Z06.......But I'd choose the Exige S without any hesitation.
It's more RAW and HARDCORE than most any other car out there. The closest thing I had to it was an Evo IX, and I miss it greatly. ![]() Lotus Exige S for me. |

Recaro or Sparco will do nicely. I sat in a car with a Sparco seat that was actually mounted to the stock frame. It still had most of the power adjustments working. It definitely felt much better and they guys said on the track you could feel the car much better due to less cushion thickness. He had a lumbar pillow in also from Sparco that made the seat much more comfortable.
Not to confuse you or anything, but just curious why you haven't considered a Caymen? I've spoken to quite a few instructors that run them and they are fantastic track cars. I had a standard Boxster for a little while and it felt very connected to the road and the handling manners were fantastic. For the price of used Caymen/S you could do a little work to it and it'd be an unbelievable track day weapon. Still, the Z06 will be faster without a doubt.
