I never saw such a HUGE collection of E46M3's and E30M3's for the track !

The light shows up on all onboard videos . Its the hazard but no they were not on .

As far as the exhaust... I had quite a few people complement me on the sound . Its quite amazing and changes sound as it winds up to 8500 . I actually got black flagged at the end of my 3rd session and had to ease off the throttle in my last session. If you look at the video when the E46 passes me around the 7 min mark (somewhere around there) thats where the DB monitor was so I was always letting off there. Same spot where I passed the Ferrari. Believe it or not I was black flagged for 92.4 DB ! LOL I was .4 above the limit.

Im headed back there next week for 2 days and Im trying to find exhaust tips that point down . Ive been told they reduce up to 4 DB. I just cant seem to find them anywhere so if any of you know where I can go please let me know.

Thats the part of the reason that I have done nothing as far as my exhaust is concerned.Calabogie has the same noise limits and this is the 1st report that I have seen on actual db levels on track.

That's good to know. Thanks.

Skierman64, you have any idea how much that 325 weighs?

I dont consider .4 to be so bad considering downward pointing tips reduce DB by a massive 4 DB . The AA tips are easily removable so easy to replace with different tips for the track to make DB tests.

Nice. The car skierman was in was stripped and caged (not sure if it was a race car or not), so it must weigh less than 2950.

We discussed it over the weekend, his best guess is about 2600-2650 but I don't think it's ever been weighed. He has a lot of weight saving features like a fiberglass sunroof insert without the motor or mechanicals. no interior, no HVAC, race seats, race wheels etc.

BTW, the other times you passed me later in that straight, I don't recall lifting but you had some closure speed already.

2600 sounds about right based on your description.

Yes, I was carrying more speed out of the carosel during the other passes.

I just spoke with the shop who maintains my car. There was an intermittent whine in 4th. He suggested we put it on the dyno to check it out. That'll give me a chance to see the power output. Unfortunately, I am looking for ways to justify going 2.5L with this car. 250hp crank and another 100lbs off would make it soooo much more fun.

lucid - my son tells me his E30 M3 official weight is 2650 with him and a full tank of gas.
btw, he is in the middle of a redo - weight will be slightly higher but not much. HP will be a bunch more. His recommendation, number one priority, keep the weight down and then increase hp if you can. Larger tires will help.

I haven't weighed the car, but I suspect it weighs ~2600lb dry without driver currently. I can easily take out another 100lbs off, which will be my first priority. The problem is if you want larger tires, you need to go up to 17" wheels on this car as there just aren't tire options in 15" that I am aware of. I am running 225/50/15 cups tires on 15x8 rims now. Hoosier makes R6s in 275/35/15 but you'd need 15x9 rims and rolled fenders probably. What rims and tires is your son running on his club racer?

Loved reading through this thread and seeing the pics. Wish there was some video. I've never been to Tremblant (it wasn't part of the regional SCCA races), but it looks great. The track on my list is Barber in AL first though. Need car and $$$$

Prior to his new project - Not sure about rims, but tire size now is the same as you. He is going to the larger - 17" - tires after his redo is complete.

Here's some video I shot last year from the right seat while riding with two instructor friends of mine. Be careful, it's hand held video and therefore you may need motion sickness pills.
