New 2009/LCI iDrive controller installation...
... 100% plug and play/functional in production 05/08 E90 M3 with iDrive: this is the Sedan 6-Speed installation only; Convertible and M-DCT require different console and installation could have extra steps not illustrated here. Your results may vary...
A Torx T-10 bit is required, 30 min job. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Technic; 07-11-2009 at 07:57 AM. |

Sweet! Thanks for the pics!
Where did you buy the iDrive knob and center console?

Thanks for the detailed pics. Great to hear it's plug-n-play. I am still waiting for the new center console, and looks like I'll be waiting for a while from what I've heard from the parts manager. No ETA yet. Don't know what the hold up is in Germany. There are at least six of them on back order in Australia.
Although you don't have the '09 iDrive, at least the look of the new unit is refreshing and fits in better with the interior trim compared to the bland aluminium knob. Enjoy it!

Technic,
I hope you're a woman because I want to make sweet, sweet love to you. This is what I needed! Do you know if there are any carbon fiber trims for the center console yet or if it has to be sent out for a custom job? |

![]() There is no M3 OEM console in carbon fiber so far, you need to send it to a custom shop. |

I doubt it...the 2009 X5s still have the old iDrive controller, so I don't think the new console with iDrive controller is available yet.

To the OP.. is the trim around the controller part of the console or part of the control?
Edit: taking a closer Look at the third pic. it looks like it is part of the console.. which makes it mandatory to buy the console as well.. I was thinking of making a bigger whole on my current console and have the controller trim cover any inperfections from the cut.. but I guess i will have to spend the extra $$$... np.. i think this mod is well worth it.. thanks... |

Without those two cables any thinking about a new iDrive retrofit is impossible. I need to find a junkyard with late model cars with some MY2009 3 Series iDrive parts to see if I can get at least those cables from the OEM harness. The rest of the parts are no problem to get at all. |

Thanks for the info Technic ... something tells me that you'll eventually retrofit the new CIC idrive in the end .... the wiring and parts will eventually become available. |
