Laser Intercepter head install ?

How can I get these things to point perfectly straight forward while mounting vertical in the kidney grilles? This part is turning out to be a major project.... I know they can tip to the side, but they must be level vertically so they don't point towards the road or sky and the must point straight down the road not to the left or right. Any suggestions?

BTW... I'll post pics when I'm done so others can see how to do it.

So the vertical grille install has been aborted....

Mounted on bumper at top of lower grille opening haha... should perform better there though so it's not all bad.

Well, a bit late now but...



I had them shim the inside of the grill a bit to fit the heads in and pointing straight and level. There's a few examples on the Laser Interceptor forum as well.

Anyhow, the under bumper mount works just as well. There was an example of this on this forum as well.

I don't like the way those stick out so far at top. But I know it's necessary for proper jamming. The issue was not where to put it, but how to make it look nice and still be level and straight down the road. Thanks for the pic though

jackolo's installation is perfectly done. In order for laser jammers to work up to their full potential, they must not be mounted behind the grille. There is a saying in the speed countermeasure world, "Stealth the ride, not the install." which applies here.

This is so not true ... I had them on 3 BMW's behind the grilles and never had any problems ... They worked every time I have been hit ... You just need to position them right ... that's all ...


and yes, they do look ugly and very noticeable on the picture above ... you wouldn't be able to drive like that in CA for sure ...

If you're off to the side of the car the grilles will block it if mounted behind. Also some people have had them mounted behind and were getting the signal they were being hit by laser but they were not able to jam the gun.

I test these setups all the time. If you're sensors are mounted behind the grille, I can almost guarantee you that I will easily get longrange PTs(punchthroughs) on your setup. I've seen it time and time again. If you are protected properly with your sensors mounted behind the grille, it would be the first I've ever seen. If you're ever in SoCal, let's test your setup and see who's right.

I'm thinking about re-installing my LI heads on my new bumper. Thinking of using velcro this time, so I don't have to put any holes and it will save a little bit of space by eliminating the mounting brackets.

Any opinions on a velcro install?? Suggestions for good velcro??

I know it sounds like they would be easy to steal, or could possibly fall off. But I figure with the wires running tight back through the lower grille the worst that can happen is the velcro falls of and they hang from the wire till I stop driving and fix them.
