Am I crazy?

I've been thinking about switching cars for the past couple months mainly because I want a smaller car. I'm inclined to get an Audi TT-S coupe and call it a day. I really miss the TQ of the motor and can do away with the DCT lag at 5:30 traffic on I-5.

Am I being crazy or what? I'm going to test drive one in Tacoma on Thursday so I'll report back.

It's alright I guess. If 272 hp is enough for you, then by all means. But to me, even the upgraded engine isn't enough to make me think its not a feminine car.

People are so fickle these days. Did you not test drive the M3 beforehand? Did the torque just vanish and did the lag just appear.

This is gonna be good news to someone looking for a bargain.

Call it whatever you like. The TQ and DCT weren't as much of an issue when I was in Boston. Apparently, the rush hour here in Seattle starts at 2:30pm and the jerkiness of the DCT is driving me bananas on I-5 going home. I can't imagine what it's gonna be like post-call.

It's not the gear shift jerk. It's the jerk from 2nd gear not engaging during reacceleration from slowing down. The 2nd gear will be slow to catch and then it'll finally catch and the car will lurch forward. The traffic is not completely stop and go so I'm stuck in that bad lag spot quite often. Driving in S mode sort of takes care of that, but I can foresee a huge hassle when I'm over-worked / post-call.

Ah I see. Well there's a new software fix out that supposedly fixes the lag issue but there isn't a lot of feedback yet.

Yeah, I'm waiting for a definitive update so I can get the AA software. I don't want to have to send my ecu in multiple times.

Kev, i'd be careful what you wish for...trading the DCT for an S tronic gearbox might land you in the exact same position. I haven't test driven the TT-S before, but I'm certain that owners have reported lag problems just like DCT.

I'll be interested to here your report. I think that the TT-S is a great looking car.

That's what I am trying to find out too about the DSG transmission.

Not very likely it'll make it to the US.

My DCT can be driven in traffic in auto mode, and it feels like an auto. Get your tranny checked out.

I seriously test drove the TT-S! Like 3 times. I went for the M3 only because I need the back seats or I thought so.
The TT-S feels more like a true sports car. I liked it a lot!! I do not know how it drives on track though.
I was somewhat unhappy with the M3 before i started to track it. The M3 is very nice on the track, not comperable to my 2008 Audi A4.
The TT-S with chip tuning can easily reach 310-320HP with that it will be very close to the M3.
