Trailer Tie Down advise
Has anyone trailer'd there M's? Where are the best tie down spots? Would installing the bumper hooks nd using those the best idea? How about the tire tie downs trailer companies sell? If you trailer please advise your tie down method..

I think the tire holddowns are the best idea as it allows the suspension to work normally over bumps.We had tabs installed on our E30 race car to allow easy tie down put doing it that way made the car solid on the trailer but the car never moved.The 2 tow hooks that are on the car would be insufficent to hold the car down.

The correct (BMW specified) way to tie down to a trailer is to use T-Hooks which are installed on the car by removing the jack pads (all four if you want the car to remain centered on the trailer).

BMW has again made difficult what was simple. The jack pads I have removed in the past were held in place by two screws. On the E90 you need to push in a tab to release them, very likely breaking it (I did). ECS sells replacements that may be easier to use.
http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E90-M3-...rior/ES248447/ Rear Jack pad removed (the locking tab was facing towards the front of the car, maybe different with front pad). The center hole in the frame is where the t-hook goes. I used a small pry bar to remove the pad but a screwdriver might have been a better choice. |
