Hidden V1 in MB anything similar for BMW?

This looks pretty cool hiding the V1 display in the instrument cluster. I guess there's a plug and play interface? Anything similar available for us BMW owners?

I had something similar on my E46 M3 called the Stealth One. The V1 status and alerts showed up on the nav display. I don't think Stealth One are in business any longer.

found the link for the guy that created this interface. I suppose a similar setup could be created to interface with our dash computers, but I have never heard of anyone doing such a thing. Evidently it only works when the dash display is set to display audio information (radio station, track name, etc).

I have the display hidden in my rear view and have been very happy with it. Of course, that cost $1900, so I would imagine that this option is much cheaper (and if it was displayed graphically as opposed to verbally) better.

The biggest thing is pricing. A standard V1 is great, and will run you $300-$600 for the unit plus remote head (depending on if you get new or ebay). A total stealth intergration of either is gonna run you around $1500+ depending on your shop. The 9500ci is great as well, and each seem to have their loyal armies. Personally I prefer the V1 for the directional display. The learning feature is decent on the 9500. As far is stealth in car systems they are both great, with the 9500 probably being a touch more sensitive simply by the nature of the V1's stealth install (you lose Laser detection since the unit is hidden - often in either the headliner or dash. Not a big deal since ordinary laser detection is pretty useless without a shifter of some kind). I love the fact that my V1 system is completely hidden even when you are in the car. I just have to tweak it for more sensitivity to be perfect.

Your install shop should have both avialable to test, so like just about everything else, it's personal preferance.

Although a stealth install is really sweet. I love my V1. I'd consider at doing a stealth install of my V1 if a good one became available. But I'm happy with it tucked up nicely by the rear view mirror and hardwired. It's so reliable, it's got one simple to use button, and I like how the display is slightly aimed towards the driver while the unit is installed straight in the car. I also like how the button is on the front of the unit and not up top allowing me to mount it as high as possible on my windshield. It's saved me so many times and I've learned to understand all the readings it gives me and trust it that I'd be afraid to switch to another detector.

V1 saved me today along going 680 south between the Treat BLVD exit and N. Main St. exit.
I've only had it 3 days.

Now if there was a really cool way to integrate the V1 into the instrument cluster and keep the unit out of site...... That would be cool

Unfortunately, you can't separate the front and rear antennae in the V1 since the programming for the directional arrows depends on them being where they are in relation to each other. So making a real stealth install option would be pretty tough. But, putting a radar detector up high on the front windshield is generally the best place for it anyway. If you want more stealth, get the remote display unit. You will have to be creative to find a good place to set it though.

I suspect that the "stealth-one" didn't sell too well and that's why it's not made anymore. The V1 is already somewhat of a niche market so those that have V1 and BMWs is probably an even smaller group. Too bad.

I would think the best way to integrate the V1 into the car would be to display the information on a HUD. I wish the M3 had the HUD option. I've experimented with putting the V1 remote under the windshield to have a HUD-like display in my SUV. I get two reflections from the window unless I put a piece of sticky plastic where the reflection is. But it just doesn't look "OEM" enough for me. BTW, to do this you need to switch two pairs of wires in the V1 remote.

If you search the net you might find the guy that programmed the HUD in his vette to display V1 info. He said he wouldn't do it again since so much work was involved. Good luck.
