Brembos Installed...Thx WheelSTO!

Big thanks to WheelSTO for getting me the best quoted price and extremely fast shipping!

Some Pictures...

All four getting laid out and ready to install

Comparing stock rotors to the Brembo 380mm

Stock still seems to have more surface area? or optical illusion?

Stock single piston (floating caliper)

http://www.dentsport.com did the install

off comes the stock caliper + rotor + brake line..

...on goes the new 6 piston front brakes..They cut the dust shield in front and totally removed the rear one..

Installed!

Taken by a friend at a local Cars & Coffee meet.

These brakes would make the biggest difference on the track obviously but I notice no real difference in stopping power on the street.. I guess the only thing I feel is that the braking is more "even." The stock brakes used to have this big initial bite to them and then fade out.. The Brembos don't have this bite.

why is that? Brembos come standard on a lot of cars that drive year round--snow included.. Don't AWD EVOs come with Brembos from the factory?

Yes, but a fairly low end model. Nothing like their aftermarket BBK like yours. Some reports have shown poor stopping distances and even significant fade with the OEM Brembo system.

Is that because of extreme cold? or physically because of icing or snow?

EDIT: and doesn't the GT-R have identical brakes to these aftermarket Brembos?

Question: do the OE sensors still work properly?

Are these the brake pad wear sensors? If so, mine appear to be working properly.. The shop did mention that securing them to the new brakes were tricky.

No, just because the OEM models on cars like the 350Z and Evo are nowhere close to the quality of their aftermarket BBKs.

Not sure but I would bet they are identical to an aftermarket system, not an OEM system like the ones I mentioned above.

Actually, it is hard to know for sure if they will work or not. They are binary switches, so are only triggered when the metal element makes contact with the rotor. So it's a matter of how well they are positioned and if they remain in the proper orientation and wear out as intended--meaning will they trigger at the same minimum pad thickness as stock, etc. I am sure Brembo must have thought about that stuff though.

No where close to the quality? You make it sound like these OEM BBKs are horrible vs the comparable kits on the aftermarket. Did you read an actual comparison somewhere that said they were so vastly inferior? So an inferior brake actually works better year round? Maybe I'm too much of a n00b to understand..

I've had a set of aftermarket Stoptech ST-40 BBKs with axxis ultimate pads on my 350Z for like 6 years now and I did occasionally drive my Z in the winter .. I didn't notice a thing different.. Still confused as to what would cause these Brembos to not work in the winter.. like I asked.. is it the cold or the icing? is it the pad? I guess I'll just have to wait until winter and report back..

Yes.

Could we also confusing our terms? The 350Z never came from the factory with StopTech brakes. It came with a Brembo kit. This is what I refer to as an OEM BBK. If you had a StopTech system on your car that you put on that is simply a true aftermarket BBK.

Anyway when an OEM puts a brake from a company making BBKs on their car as stock you will not get the same brake system you do in when you buy a BBK from the same company. It has been demonstrated by testing and is pretty simple common sense as well. OEMs are so price sensitive. They simply can not put a $6k brake system (even it they could buy it in volume for $2k) on a $30k car. So the brake system might cost the OEM $500, maybe $1k at most. Does it make sense that you can get the design, materials, part quality, pad quality, etc. as a $6000 (retail) system?

Now that is just a simple common sense argument based on economics. Here is the actual data to back up the claim. This is thread from a discussion long ago about how "crappy" single piston OEM brakes can significantly out perform the OEM "BBK" in terms of fade. The case was made with the 350Z. Link.

You sure they are binary? How does the car computer determine how much pad life is left though? (as indicated in service info)
